"What will they do? Cut me?" - Favre

Never thought I'd see the day Packer fans would turn on Brett Favre... but it appears those days are upon us.

When asked about the "deadline" to decide whether he'd return for another season or not Favre replied:

"If I don't tell them by Saturday, what will they do? Cut me?"

Since the Chimura has called him out for being selfish, and sports radio have been up one side of him and down the other over acting like this in light of his criticizing a teammate a couple years ago for holding out.

Packer fans seem to be quite split of the the issue... but many are VERY hostile towards Favre. I caught about five minutes of Jim Rome toady (no choice, there were playing it in the office I was in) and a Packer fan called in and said something to the effect of... Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way back to Mississippi to ride your tractor.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Wow, that is surprising. The man is a sporting icon in Green Bay; I'm sure that what this caller said does not reflect the popular attitude toward him.

Yeah, I would have thought so too... but I checked around before posting and it seems there truly is a split... oddly if anything the majority was slightly anti-Favre in the Packer circles.

I suppose it's one of those "no one man is greater than the franchise" type of arguments; it seems like Favre is at the point in his career where he really doesn't have much left to prove to himself or the fans, and perhaps he's become a little apathetic. Perhaps it IS time to get some new blood at the helm of the offence.

This'll just be the vocal minority. Kind of like the RR haters on this site.
I officially retract my vote for DDS as Prime Minister. He's clearly incompetent.

IMO people have been trying to usher him out of the game for the last five years......it must be incredibly trying on him each and every offseason to hear the same question over and over and over.......truth is it's very little different then from what we're seeing with Lefsrud, except that in Brett's case it really doesn't matter. If he decides to hang 'em up, Aaron Rogers will be the starting QB.......if he doesn't, AR is still #2 for another year.......if anything it just goes to show how tough a decision this is for Brett. Who has had enough tragedy surround him recently to really make this seem like small potatoes in the grand scheme of things......

IMO, those who are blasting him should just shut it.......he's going to come back......he's never been anything but the consumate team guy, I can't see him turning his back on the team or fans (but the way some of them or acting they just might be deserving a big glass of STFU)

Yeah, to wash down some humble pie. I can understand the frustration some of the fans must be feeling these last few years, but this just seems like unmitigated rants against a great player, and an even better person. IMHO, I'd like to see him play one more year regardless; bottomline: for a player who is bound for the Hall, let him make up his own mind.

I'll give Packers fans credit. They are loyal. Loyal to players, but even moreseo to the organization. Farve is about to find out that he is NOT bigger than the team in the eyes of most fans.
He has been pulling this "Will I or won't I" for the past few off-seasons and it is hurting the team. They have been unable to use Farve as an attraction to get big-name free agents who would like to play with him because they're never sure if he will actually return. As well, they are unable to plan for the draft (Do we take a QB now, or wait for a few more years to replace him?), and unable to plan financially for the future, as Farve's contract eats up a fair chunk of salary cap space.
Don't think that Packer fans don't see this. They'll give Brett the benefit of the doubt, but for only so long, and IMO that time is just about up.
Add this to the fact that he really isn't a dominant player anymore. His best years are behind him, he seems to make more and more bizarre decisions on the field with each passing season, and he hasn't won a big game in a long time. Oh, and he seems to have developed the bad habit of wading into teammates salary disputes. Don't tell me that's a good idea...

Farve is a legend, and he will be (and should be) remembered as one of the all-time greats, but he is definately tarnishing his image with comments like these and his strange attitude over the past few seasons.
These pretzels are making me thirsty.

I think he just meant it in good fun. I don't really agree with it, but I don't really look much into it.

Yeah, I caught most of Rome today and apparently it's about a 50/50 split between his listeners some siding with Brett others saying things like "Screw you Farve".

I think he deserves to get time to think about this decision, but he didn't need to mock the organization like he did.

I don't think he was mocking them, but I definitly think that he is not doing the Packers any good by letting them wait. I disrespect him more for holding out than what he said. If Aaron Rodgers is gonna start they need to know, Aaron Rodgers needs to know that, and they need to find a suitable back-up

I think it's time for him to hang em up. Too many guys hang on way too long. He looked terrible this year in the games I saw him play. Not to be rude, but I don't would say "don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya." (Oops, I thought this thread was about Nealon Greene )

Ya, he should retire, but I think last year he looked worse than he is, and if he played this year, he'd probably play pretty well.
