The Edmonton Rush are hoping to spark their offense with the acquisition of forward AJ Shannon from the Buffalo Bandits. Buffalo traded Shannon and their first round selection in the 2007 Entry Draft to Edmonton on Wednesday. In return, the Bandits acquire a high draft pick for this year, getting Edmonton's first round selection (third overall selection) in the 2006 Entry Draft.
Shannon played in nine games for the Bandits in 2006 before his season was cut short by an injury. He scored seven goals and tallied sixteen assists (7G, 16A) for 23 points. Prior to the inury, Shannon had played in every Bandits game since joining the team as a rookie in 2004, scoring 87 points (41G, 46A) in two and a half seasons of play. Shannon hails from Whitby, Ontario and played at the University of Virginia prior to the Bandits drafting him in the first round of the 2003 Entrry Draft.
The Rush hope Shannon will contribute to an offense that scored a league-low 150 goals last season.
