A comment on the "hate us" thread got me thinking. A lot of people living in big cities point out that there are "other things to do than go to the football game" as a partial explanation why their team doesn't sell out their stadiums.
This invariably leaves residents of the smaller cities lucky enough to have a CFL to get what I call "little man syndrome" and puff out their chests to proclaim "We can do exactly what you can, only we have a proportionally fewer number".
Normally, I agree with this latter position.
But then I was thinking back to events we've had lately. WORLD CUP events, WORLD CUP stops, or WORLD CLASS events.
ITU Triathalon World Cup stop
World Rugby Cup
Grand Prix
World Squash Cup
(next summer) FIFA U-20 World Championships
Largest Fringe Festival in North America (2nd in the world)
Edmonton International Film Festival
Hell...even look at the Phantom of the Opera and the new Cirque du Soleil productions...and all this (with the exception of soccer) just in the past MONTH!!!!
Looking at this...have to say...sure makes me PROUD to live in Edmonton. I didn't really realize how international we are. And I ALSO wonder how many people don't quite appreciate that fact!
