OPERATION AIRLIFT ESKIMOS

This just in Operation Airlift Eskimos is on hold. Both Edmonton media and fans are keeping an eye on commonwealth Stadium for player changes. However the Edmonton Eskimos General Manager, Ed Hervey addressed the media going into Labour Day. He made a point of saying, “Week in and week out we are getting better. I am not going to put our team in the situation of who is coming and who is going.”

Hervey talked about continuity and communication being built in the secondary and the team as a whole. He definitely sounded like a man convinced that the off season decision to not spend money on free agent veterans was a right one. Yet, Hervey went out and signed Cord Parks and Brandyn Thompson to bolster the secondary after the loss of Aaron Grymes and John Ojo.

Defensive end Willie Jefferson and shutdown wide side defensive back Aaron Grymes have both been released from their NFL clubs. When asked about Jefferson and Grymes Hervey said, “Guys we are well aware of, guys we are familiar with, guys we have been in contact with ... they choose to make decisions on their future. We are focused on the guys we have here at this point. If the opportunity was there for them to come back we would welcome them with open arms.”

Maybe there is still a chance of an airlift of players to bolster the Eskimos roster for the stretch drive towards another Grey Cup. This is the time of year where a few key pickups from NFL camps can make a big difference in the win column.
