I don't know, we had a lot of money that was tied up in some of the guys who don't appear to be coming back. There could be some room. Also, the cap doesn't really matter until the end of the year. Maybe there's a little bit of gymnastics with the...

I mentioned the Maxie connection to Ceresna in the lead-up to today and said he could be a factor, but obviously he likely played a role in bringing over the three from Toronto and maybe Metchie too.
Receiver doesn’t concern me much....Last edited by BeaverSports; 02-02-2025, 08:27 PM.

How many times since this format was announced have teams matched? Maybe one or two? It’s kind of dumb PR-wise.

I guess when you think about money, A) the Elks may have had internal caps previously, and B) there’s a fair amount that’s moved out with MBT, Lewis, Mitchell, Brown, Moore, Oakman, Moncrief, Brown, Foucault, and Bede to name a few. The cap...

Maybe has to do with the signings not being official now. Farhan Lalji, of TSN, broke most of today’s news....

I don’t know how Hervey is doing it, or if they’re following BC’s lead last year of blowing by the cap, but this will be impressive if all these guys land.

Looks like Rose is off the board to Saskatchewan. Likely makes Ceresna a top target.

I wasn’t expecting the Boyko move either. He seemed to fit into Sorrells’ unit well and really stabilized the line two years ago. I don’t see a lot of tackles out there, so it will be interesting who they target.

For some reason I was thinking McEwen was an Edmonton guy when I first posted. I agree it'd be unlikely he'd leave Calgary, but you could say Kilam is a Calgary guy too.
On O'Donnell, I didn't know if they held his rights for perpetuity...

I wondered about Beard given that history and his familiarity with Hervey. What I don’t know is whether he or Korte is interested in moving from centre. That seemed to be one reason for the trade, at least from the outside looking in.

That would be the dream, and both may be possible. I knew Ceresna was involved in the community, but apparently his fiancée is also an Edmonton girl....

It does temper my expectations a bit, but it’s becoming more of a league for one-year contracts and we have a staff with tentacles into a lot or organizations who guys seem to want to come play for. I have to believe there’s been some good...

Judging by Hervey’s comments about a bounce-back year, I’m guessing they offered to renegotiate and he wouldn’t accept the terms. It’s just as well, I never thought he approached the money they likely paid him. Blanchard should be fine.Last edited by BeaverSports; 01-28-2025, 07:22 PM.

Mike Rose, anyone? While Ceresna remains my top target, this is intriguing. Maybe Calgary is subscribing to the one year early rather than one year late theory, but he’s been a perennial west all-star at DL and was a league all-star before last...

Yes, I forgot about Hutter, but he seems like a team leader who can be invaluable on special teams if not starting safety. I also thought adding Szott on some running plays made a difference last year. David Foucault is definitely a seasoned vet, but...

Which free agents are on your list? To me Jones, Morgan and Mayala are the only big ones remaining (presuming Lewis is addressed). Even for them, I’m not sure you couldn’t replace them if push came to shove....

I wasn't too surprised by this decision. There are younger guys that have performed fairly well in that secondary and I'd expect Purifoy had a big ticket and maybe wasn't going to be a fit with what they were doing. It makes sense, but it also depends...

And I’ll double down a little here too. While I don’t think any receiver is worth that much over market (other than to a team trying to be relevant that has cap room they can’t spend otherwise), the whole package from Lewis seems more...

I don't know. The year Lewis signed, Cornelius was looking like an up-and-comer as he battled for wins leading up to his spleen injury and there was discussion that the receiving corps with Lewis, Dunbar, Moore, and Mitchell was going to be among the...

I get the same sense too with Geno Lewis. I appreciate Hervey's candour and his strategy not to lead with a lowball offer, but don't know if those types of speaking points give the player confidence he's going to be a priority. I'm not sure Geno is...
