The Edmonton Police Service is pathetic...

This is going to be a long one boys, sit back, grab a beer and enjoy!

Tuesday, May 17, 9:00 pm - I come home from work and park my car ('91 White Daytona) in my designated stall in the underground parking garage beneath my condo. Like an idiot, I forget my wallet and cell phone in my car. "No big deal though, it's safe down there, right?"

Wednesday, May 18, 7:00 am - Phone rings. Message left. It's VISA. There has been suspicious activity on my account and the card has been suspended. "Huh?"

Wednesday, May 18, 8:30 am - Phone rings. Message left. It's Mastercard. There has been suspicious activity on my account and the card has been suspended.

Wednesday, May 18, 9:30 am - I leave for work. Head down to the garage to get into my car. No car there. WTF?

Wednesday, May 18, 9:35 am - Inform building manager my car is gone. He doesn't seem too concerned.

Wednesday, May 18, 9:40 am - Call police. They take report, inform me to come into station to fill out a written statment.

Wednesday, May 18, 9:45 am to 11:00 am - Made dozens of calls cancelling credit cards, debit card, etc. Not fun.

Wednesday, May 18, 12:30 pm - Visit North Edmonton Police Station to fill out written statement. Waited for half an hour to speak with someone. They can't find my report? "Huh? I just spoke with Cnst. Burke who said he would fax it here." After 10 minutes of them searching and me waiting, it's finally found. I fill out the statment. Idiot behind the desk berates me on leaving my wallet in my car. I know I'm an idiot for doing that, but the last thing I need is some old guy behind a desk talking down to me after my f**king car was just stolen!

Wednesday, May 18, 1:30 pm - Call my insurance company. Give them case file number from Police.

Tuesday, May 24, 10:00 am - Phone rings. Message left. Someone with Edmonton Bylaw. Doesn't leave name or phone number. Tells me my vehicle is in someone's parking spot and it will be towed unless I pick it up. It's at the Clareview apartments. "Where the hell is that?"

Tuesday, May 24, 12:30 am - I get home, check messages. Phone Bylaw Services. They have no record of calling me or my car being found. "But they had to run the plates to get my name and phone number, why didn't it show as stolen?" Instruct me to call Police.

Tuesday, May 24, 12:40 am - Call Police. He takes case file number and puts me on hold.

Tuesday, May 24, 12:50 am - Tells me my car isn't reported stolen in the system. "What?" He says it doesn't matter now. Just go pick up my car. Gives me address of Clareview Apartments. In my haste to leave, I forget to get the guy's name.

Tuesday, May 24, 1:15 pm - Arrive at Clareview Apartments. Find car. Door severely damaged. Inside a complete mess. Ignition stripped. Everything (cell, wallet, deck, cd's) gone.

Tuesday, May 24, 1:30 pm - Call Police. Talked with a nice gentleman by the name of Greg. He demands to know who called me this morning to tell me my car was at Clareview Apartments. "He didn't leave a name or phone number." Greg doesn't believe me. He then demands to know who I spoke with when I called back. "Sorry, I don't remember." Greg then proceeds to give his all high and mighty speech about how I should get names and phone numbers when dealing with the police service. "I didn't need a phone number, I called you!" Greg puts me on hold.

Tuesday, May 24, 1:35 pm - Greg comes back on the line and asks for the case number. I give it to him. He says it doesn't show as stolen. "I REPORTED IT A WEEK AGO!" He asks me why I am calling. I tell him AGAIN, the car is a mess and totally damaged. He tells me they probably already know this because they called me. "How do you know this if I didn't? You didn't look at it!" He tells me they wouldn't call me if they hadn't looked at it. "If you had looked at it, you would have known it was stolen!" I'm getting furious.

Tuesday, May 24, 1:50 pm - Greg agrees to send a cruiser to look at the car. I give him the address for where I want it towed. I try to say goodbye to Greg, but he again gives me a speech on getting people's names. "Thank you." He then asks me if I'm going to get his name. "Your name is Greg." He then tells me his name is Greg ("really?") and his badge number is 8629. I hang up.

I feel neither protected or served.

Good ole city Po-lice.....I must say that I have never had the misfortune of being on your side Ang.....Managing a building downtown however I had my fair share of time with the downtown officers, and 95% of them were very nice....

Hope you have a good adjuster.....

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune and resulting frustration. I can't say that my few experiences with the force have left me feeling any different.
One particular event occurred at the stadium; gameday, row 4, behind visitor bench..
several drunken youths were verbally abusive (foul language) to females sitting by us, were asked to stop or leave, began physical attacks on older fans and all the while were being watched by Police within 50' at field level. Only after a fan in the skirmish identified himself to the patrolmen as an off duty officer did they become involved. Were they planning on arresting the survivors of the brawl?.... absolutely useless!
Further private conversations with officers has shown me what a farcical image the force has perpetrated. Any feelings of a cohesive force protecting the populace is purely illusional. Whether you know it or not, when the chips are down, you're on your own!

And theres not even the option of dealing with it yourself.
The problem is that alot (not all) police dont follow the rule of law, the simple principle that NOBODY is above the law, even those who enforce it.
I was once with a buddy and he was speeding, and of course he gets pulled over
Officer: do you know how fast you were going?
Friend: Well you clocked me so shouldnt I be asking you?
Officer: you were going 80 in a 50 zone
Friend: Oh wow, you must of clocked me as I was breaking, cause I was going way faster than that!
Officer: *insert shtick about endangering people lifes*
Friend: thats kind of hypocritical, Ive seen many police go through red lights and show a general disregard for the rules of the road
            Officer: License and registration please..

the only thing missing was NWA - F*%& tha Police playing in the background! One of the funnier moments in my life!

Its important to remember there are alot of great cops who truly are civil servents and deserve our praise, but there are alot of cops like the ones we speak about in the thread who ruin the name for the good one. As bad as the EPS is, its ten times better than the Saskatoon Police Service!
I told those f***s down at the league office a thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos!

your buddy must have read the email about the top 10 things you never say to a cop......

Yup, our boys in blue at their finest. When my garage was broken into and my truck cleaned out, they refused to send someone over eventhough I had told them I had found fingerprints on the back side of the dash pieces that were broken. So I finally put them in a plastic bag and took them in myself where it was dealt with in a manner that was less than professional and I'd bet that those pieces were tossed in the garbage 2 min after I left.

Simple fact is the rank and file boys could care less about property loss. They'd rather be out setting up radar traps........

It's amazing too, with as rigorous a screening process as they go through. What's funny is I've been involved with applying in both Edmonton and Calgary. Edmonton is all about the numbers. Who's highest on the fitness scores, aptitude scores, etc. Calgary is pass/fail and then the interview is huge. Frankly, the cops I've dealt with in Calgary are a lot more personable. Goes to show ya that it's not all about the numbers. (kind of like scouting reports)

Pretty sad that one persons mistake/tardiness paints the entire department as pathetic.

How soon we forget Mayerthorpe or events like it.

I have seven friends from High School on the Force. All are fine men, two are on the Tactical Team.

Leaving a wallet in a car is a bad decision.
