Mulroney Says Conservative Need to be Greener

    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2006/...vironment.html

The greenest PM in history says that Harper needs to beef up his Clean Air act to get middle class voters.

    a) Is Mulroney credible?
    b) Do the middle class give a damn about green issues?
    c) What's the best way to tackle CO2/Smog?

    Discuss......

    a) Yes....as much as the next Canadian politician
    b) Not one damn bit....
    c) Get countries that produce a considerable amount to start acting, like China, India, and the US. On this list Canada is very low......

Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.

Did Mulroney crawl out from under his rock again? I thought I saw a slime trail.

Who gives a crap, he's ancient history and governments will listen to him as much as they will listen to Beerfish, JCR or the neighbourhood cat.

Yeah, I agree what are you trying to say. I don't think it's fair to lump in the neighbourhood cat, he get's far more press than the other 2...

Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

I care more about the government leaving a few more bills in my wallet than Smog.

When it comes to CO2, the gov should invest heavily into the development of using CO2 to increase oil well recovery rates. There are only a handfull of companies in Alberta who are pioneering this technology, where instead of water being pumped into old wells to recover more oil, they are using CO2 gas instead. The gas in turn increases the recovery rates because it can permeate into the rock where much of the unextracted oil remains.

By developing a CO2 recovery industry we kill three birds with one stone. We use less water, we have an almost unlimited source for waste CO2 that can be returned to the ground and is non toxic, and we increase oil production.
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

Yeah it's pretty cool. I read about this last year. Two smaller alberta oil companies came up with the technology after buying a bunch of old oil leases for a bargain after the previous owner classified them as used up.

What most people don't realize is that in any given new oil well, the recovery rate is only about 18-22% of what's actually down there. The remainder of the oil is soaked into the rock and such. They started using water because the oil would come to the surface, but with CO2 the gas almost acts as a magnet for the oil and can get it out of the rock over time. One of the companies said they took 20 wells that were considered non producing and got 6-11% of the initial production out of it.

Just think about all the millions of oil wells drilled around the world that we could pump waste CO2 gas into......
