Well, I finally did it. I picked up some extra consulting work on the side and managed to convince my wife (using the old Jedi mind trick) that we can afford a new TV to replace our aging 32" tube TV. I was just wondering if anyone here had any reccomendations on models, etc. I'm trying to keep the size to around 46", price is not that big of a concern. Through my research, I am sort of attached to the 46" JVC LCD, but not neccesarily married to it by any means. Also, is anyone here using Shaws PVR? Any issues at all with it, can I record stuff I'm not watching, can you get stuff off of the PVR onto a computer, etc?

Re: The HDTV Thread
I love Shaw's HD-PVR. It has a dual-tuner so you can watch one program and record another...or record two programs. What I don't love is Shaw's service. You only get 5 or 6 HD channels and then you have to pay $10/month for the other 5 or 6 they offer. Re: The HDTV Thread
Until at least 80% of the channels are broadcast in HD, I won't be upgrading.
A waste of money IMO.
But, to help you out Traxy, my brother just purchased a Pioneer Elite 42" plasma (approx.$4000), 1080p. And my friend just bought a 46" Sony Bravia, (approx.$4000), 1080p.
We all agree that the plasma looks better. No question.Long live the B.O.N.E.

Interesting. I was keeping away from the Plasma TVs as I heard they had issues with leakage and stuff. Not sure if thats been remedied yet.Originally posted by Esks996Until at least 80% of the channels are broadcast in HD, I won't be upgrading.

Re: The HDTV Thread
I don't really understand that logic, but I guess maybe it depends on what you watch? All the shows I watch are in HD. Most NFL (and CFL) is now in HD. The only thing I watch these days not in HD are Oiler games.Originally posted by Esks996Until at least 80% of the channels are broadcast in HD, I won't be upgrading.

Definitely not a waste of money for me."No one entertains the thought that maybe God does not believe in you." - Bo Burnham
