    Re: The HDTV Thread

Same here, given the choice it's hands down HD

Did anyone else have a mental image of DDS hammering a nail through the TV as he tries he hang it up?

I tried to find a handy picture to go with it... didn't work.

Note to the wise, having Hammer and Nail in a google image search is a bad idea, even if the word TV is also in there..

Well, he would notice the difference if he was playing video games (DDS?) two inches from the screen.

You have to be some sort of freak to notice the difference between 1080p and 1080i.

Personally I think one needs an oscilloscope to do that.

                    A waste of money IMO.

But, to help you out Traxy, my brother just purchased a Pioneer Elite 42" plasma (approx.$4000), 1080p. And my friend just bought a 46" Sony Bravia, (approx.$4000), 1080p.

We all agree that the plasma looks better. No question.
I use to think that way. Watching sports is 10 fold better with HD. Once you discover what you were missing you ask yourself why you took so long.

I got my second 40 inch Sony HDTV LCD flatscreen for $1699.00 boxing day. It was $800.00 smackers off that day. It is worth every penny.

Definitely not a waste of money for me.
But we have far more Oiler games this year in HD than we did last season. Last season we only had three games in HD.

CBC has really stepped up to the plate in this regards. I just wish Pay Per View and Sportsnet would get with the times.

TV programs aren't so bad but I hate sports when it isn't HD. By 2008 all US channels will be HD. The CRTC had a mandate for the same year but I hear they have backed off of it.

HDTVs are still too expensive. When they become more reasonable, the I will buy not one, but two.

the US has a mandate to ditch analog signal by the start of 2009. Digital doesn't necessarily mean HD.

Canada will be there by 2011. That date will no doubt get advanced.
