    Me: 4. Massive Bug: 0

Now... I know we have some bug lovers here, so hopefully I can get some help

Last night I was about to go to bed. All was good. I go to turn off my light, and I see something crawling on my bed:

It was about 1.5 inches long.

    "Oh hell no."

I scrambled for something to whack it with, and found a moderately sized instruction manual. Probably about 50 pages thick. I used the edge of it so as to make sure I had proper force. After smacking the bug off of my bed (which seemed to surprise it), it took off.

I managed to smack it once. And then again.

And then I got up to get some paper towel to finish the sucker.

    And..

It was gone. Thankfully, it came back. Man was it moving. It seemed disorientated though, as it was going in circles now at (full?) speed. Two more whacks, and some paper towel, and it was gone...

Now, my question for TurfToe is what exactly is the best way to ensure that I don't find another one of these suckers on my bed? I sleep my room in a finished basement, but I have a window that's been open (with a screen) thanks to the heat and a sub pump in my room, and I'm right beside a bathroom and furnace room...

So...?! My plan right now is to lay Raid. Everywhere. Window, sub pump, bathroom and furnace room.

I hate to tell you this, PDO...but that's the larval stage of the giant clock spider.

Three days from now, the twenty or so of its buddies that you didn't get will give birth, Alien-style. Out through their stomachs will come clock spiders that wear clocks as wrist watches, one on each leg, with enough hair on those legs to make a Rider cheerleader proud.

And they'll all be coming for you.

Thought I'd better warn you, in the public interest.
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

I don't know if it was that thing..

Might've just been a normal centipede. But regardless.

No bug that is visible to the human eye from several feet away is allowed anywhere near my bed.

I have a hole in the screen for my bedroom window, but I have a spider that set up a net right in front of it on the outside, and it keeps the bugs out.

My suggestion would be to try and leave the light off as much as possible when it gets dark out, or at least put up a cover when you do.

            Always have a screen on.

            And Glen..

If you were a bug, I'd crush you like one for scaring the hell out of me upon reading "larval stage"

Well PDO... saying you 'saw a bug' is kind of like saying 'you saw a vehicle'. Could be a bicycle or a helicopter or a hovercraft!

Let's start simple... how many legs?

(reminder to anyone with questions for Spidey here... 1. digital images are great! Grab your camera before you whack (or after... ) 2. There are no deadly insects or spiders or centipedes or scorpions in Canada (unless you have allergies - but hey, then pine nuts could be dangerous!)

Well.. it's corpse remains in the garbage, if necessary, but I'd rather not go that route .

I'd guess it had about 16-20. Definitely had front antenna, but it looked like it may have had rear as well (hence the picture). It was about 1.5 inches long.. maybe a centimeter wide. Legs and antenna's were short, none longer the width of the body. It was brownish-orange in colour. And the thing could move. It was honestly the fastest I've ever seen a bug move that wasn't flying.

I'm also very happy to hear that about poison... though I thought the Brown Recluse (sp?) was in BC, along with Black Widdow's.
