Most of these are legit. If you pay attention it is the No Reserve auctions that usually end up fetching far more then those with reserves....

Bah, IMO there are many things you just shouldn't buy online.

Cars are one of them. They need to be inspected up close, test driven, etc. I wouldn't buy a car online period. You can use it to research, but I would never buy.

If you click on "History", you'll see that this car has nine records. I'm too cheap to pony up the 8 bucks to see what they are, but I'll bet this car has a rather, um, colorful story to tell.
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

Hundreds (maybe thousands) of cars are sold on eBay every day. No scam here.

As someone who has never bought anything on Ebay, I sure as heck wouldn't be purchasing a car...

Takes a lot of balls to buy a car "as is" without a test drive or anything. If it turns out to be a lemon -- despite the "check marks" of excellent -- what recourse do you have? Little more than negative feedback I'm afraid.

Many people pride themselves on the feedback though. I buy stuff all the time but if they have less then 98% I stay away. Like Ang said, cars are bought and sold all the time on ebay.

My wife also buys a tonne of stuff off of Ebay (clothes for the kids and cloth for quilts) and you're right, feedback is huge.

Agreed, I'm too way cautious to buy even a video game from E-bay let alone a car.

So you're to cautious but you let the wife buy away.

                          Okay...newby question.

Let's say that I sign up as a brand new user and there is a football jersey I want to buy. If you BID on an item for sale as a new user:

                          (a) do you have a reputation / feedback score?

                          (b) can the person selling the jersey refuse to sell to me BECAUSE I'm new?

                          (c) how does feedback work? I.e. when do you give / get feedback? How do they prevent abuse (read: what if everything went fine but I just want to be a dick and give the guy bad feedback)?

I'll tell you what, when you change your signature, I'll provide the answer
Actually, I have no idea on your questions. All I know is that we've never been refused a sale and have never been neg repped before.

One thing to keep in mind if you're looking at buying something, always e-mail the seller about the shipping price. Do not ever trust the shipping calculator. And do not be surprised to see ridiculous shipping charges.

If you are a newbie, you will start at 0 and then sometimes a seller will state in their auction that they won't sell to 10 or less feedback for example. But as long as you pay promptly you shouldn't have a problem.

Always read the listing first to make sure they accept paypal, credit card, or chequq/money order. Because if you only have cheques and they only accept paypal things get tricky there.

As for giving feedback. You can be a dick even if things went 100% but why would you want to.
