    An Observation About SOME Rider Fans

    Over the weekend I had the distinct pleasure of watching a Riders game with my brother in law, his two sons and a bunch of other guys that had more *ahem* "Pride" than have of Taylor field put together.
    So we're watching the game and me being the staunch Stamps hater that I am...cheered when Saskatchewan did well...and showed my displeasure for Hank and his girls....
    Now....
    After thesecond quarter was half way done...someone finally noticed that I was wearing an Esks t-shirt. Then the torment began. All the usual arguments etc. Esks suck blah blah blah...I try to switch the subject and bring up some of the great stuff that was going on with the rest of the league. Not one of them knew who Rodriguez or Cobb were let alone....let alone who was playing on pretty much any other team in the league. Some of them didn't know who the hell their own players were on the field! These are the same guys that proclaimed that thier team was the greatest and all that stuff...they didn't know that Fantuz wasn't playing.
    I'm not saying that you have to know who everyone is or anything...I just find that the Rider fans that I've encountered have CFL Tunnel Vision....all they see is thier team, and that's it. How does a CFL fan not know who Cam Wake is? I mean really.
    I'm not saying that they're all like this, just a vast majority of the ones that I've talked to.

    bingo. They know sweet fook all about anything.. they are there for a party, not the game.

    These are the same douchebags who will endless fight to proclaim their team is the greatest ever - and yet they cant name more than 10 people on their own team let alone 10 players on any other team.


    Sadly its these losers that give the decent Rider fans a extremely bad rap.

      Meh, every team has fans like this. Every team...

      Not everyone is as intense as most of us are.

        Edmonton has our share of those believe me. As stated every team has fans with crap knowledge of the league. The people you see posting on forums like this are 'elite' football fans. (God help us all!)

          There are a lot of Rider fans who know very little about the CFL or for that matter the Riders. The Rider organization have made following the Riders a 'cool' thing to do. There is probably 10-20% of the people at a Rider game that are there for the party. If you are in a bar in Saskatchewan that number probably inflates to 50%.

            I would never be arrogant enough to think that the Esks don't have their fair share of people that are just "GO ESKS"...but can barely remember if we won or lost the last game....
            I've just noticed this with the guys at work and especially my brother in law and his kids...just sad how the brainwashing started so early

              They do start them early. Until now, no one really knew what they did with the other half of the watermelons....

              I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

                Yeah, they've done a good job marketing themselves of late... the bank doesn't care what kind of fan they are, their money is all the same

                  There are more ignorant Rider fans, by proportion, than for most other teams.

                  The reason is simple. They're the only major professional sport in town. The "fans" who want to promote their home town/province, rather than actually appreciate the game, have only one option: the Riders.

                  In Edmonton, most (not all) of those fans go to the Oilers. In Vancouver it's the Canucks.
