85% of Americans wanted some form of legislation but once again the NRA rules the day.

The NRA are the closest thing to the brown shirts that America has.

Sad thing is most NRA members probably support controls too... but a few corporations bank roll the NRA and pervert it into a lobby group acting on corporate interests but that can claim to represent millions of people.

My personal beliefs side more with the NRA rather than the socialist engineers who have countless anti-gun laws on the books which routinely fail to stop these senseless acts by criminals

I do believe that in order to own a gun, one must demonstrate they possess the intellect, respect, and ability to safely and responsibly own one, and this includes criminal record/ mental health checks of they and their families. I believe the gov has no right to track what you own, but to do their utmost to ensure those who choose to own a firearm, are law biding citizens with little or no risk to become an offender.

The real problem is, no gun law including the recent proposal would stop any criminal or crazy from taking human lives. By the overwhelming large majority, these mass killings are carried out in places where the person undertaking them knows they will encounter little or no resistance in the way of an armed response. Schools, churches, malls, movie theatres, etc and furthermore it's a proven fact by the FBI's crime stats that violent crime rates are much higher in states/counties where gun restrictions are highest.

Punishing and restricting law biding citizens is no way to solve this. Our own gun registry fiasco proved that it does not accomplish a dam thing but waste taxpayer dollars that could/should be better spent on law enforcement and improving a penal system that stops sending violent offenders regularly back into society to offend again.

To quote Uncle Ted, " I don't want repeat violent offenders, I want dead violent offenders"

Furthermore, you could confiscate every gun right now, and all you would do is increase the sale of pressure cookers, nails, and fertilizer. people who are dead set on causing mass casualties will always find a way. Always.

Sad but true...it's all too easy to make something go boom, especially with the internet now. As far as criminal checks etc...I'm all for them, to a point. I let my FAC expire years ago and for me to get a new one, just to possess the guns that I'll be getting when Pops passes away, they need to know if I'm divorced...and will contact my ex-wife! We've been divorced almost 20 years...so in theory she could squash it and then there's no chance to get one. I also know how easy it is to get a gun in the states...heck, Pops picked one up at a swap meet in Yuma this winter and he didn't even need to show id! There needs to be a little more control than that.

It's far easier to go to home depot and get everything you need to wipe out dozens. Somehow I don't think Piers Morgan will be leading the charge against pressure cookers and finishing nails anytime soon

Why does anyone need a sport bike that can go 350km/h? Why does anyone need a truck with a 20" lift? Why does anyone need a samurai sword?

In certain parts of the south they will use high powered guns for taking down boars, armadillos, gators and such.

I would like to see a system where one has to graduate as a responsible gun owner over time with a safe record of ownership to high powered guns if they so choose. Remember their constitution gives them the right and it does not differentiate.

And again, I question how on earth passing more laws against guns does anything different than the approx 50 statues/laws that exist nationally today? If a criminal or unstable person wants to harm people, they will find a way and do so violently, gun or no gun.

Isn't it true that automatic weapons are built for killing people in large numbers?

The same can't be said for a sport bike or a samurai sword.

In the most recent Texas incident last week a guy went nuts and used a knife--and all of his victims lived.

If by chance he had tried to get an automatic rifle and was denied access then those people owe their lives to gun control that does work.

If you go into a crowd intent on killing a bunch of people, do you have a better chance of doing so with a knife or a gun?
