These are photos of the F/A-22 (Raptor) as the first aircraft delivery was being made to Langley AFB in VA. Langley is to be first operational AFB for the F/A-22.

The Aircraft flying along with the F/A-22 in several of these photos is the F-15, which will be replaced by the F/A-22 since testing by the USAF has verified predictions that the F/A-22 would be several times better than the F-15.

In actual in-flight (simulated combat) operations against the F-15, one F/A-22 was able to operate without detection while it went head to head against 4 F-15's and (2) F/A-22's against (8) F-15's. The F/A-22's scored missile hits (Kills) against each F-15 Aircraft and the F/A-22's were never detected by the F-15's or ground based radar.

Maj. Gen. Rick Lewis said: "The Raptor operated against all adversaries with virtual impunity; ground based systems couldn't engage and no adversary aircraft survived."

I still have a soft spot for the C-130 so this is really sad...........

C-130 vs Runway Construction

Real impacts of not following procedure. Lucky crew/passengers. Suggest you read, then review photos. (Ugly, and note it is not just a 'trash hauling' C-130 either.)

Last week one C-23 Sherpa flew into a US operated airfield in Iraq during the day and saw there was construction equipment on the runway. Yet there was no NOTAM (notice to airmen). A trench was being dug in the runway, and it was not marked. Its a long runway and they just landed beyond the construction. They filed a safety hazard report that was immediately forwarded to our higher headquarters and to the Air Force wing based here.

Well, it seems the construction continued and still was not marked or NOTAMed or anything. A C-130 landed on the runway the night of the 29th
and didn't see the construction. It wound up going through what is now a large pit on the runway. A few pictures are attached. The C-130 was totaled.

There were several injuries to the crew and the few passengers that were on board but luckily no-one was killed. Quite the set of failures somewhere in
the system regarding this improper construction and no notifications about
it.

Just yesterday a Raptor dropped a weapon going over Mach 1. That is impressive.

No Raptors are being built for the Navy.

My brother in law flew as the flight engineer in AC-130 gunships for the Air Force for many years. He started in the original AC-130s from Korea/Vietnam all the way up to the current AC-130H and AC-130U

Curt flew in Vietnam and was also among the crew of guys who flew the bodies of the Jonestown suicides from Guyana to Virginia where the US Govt buried the majority fo the bodies in an open pit somewhere as most of the families of the church members were too poor to travel out from California to claim the bodies..

Curt said that it is damn near impossible to hide from those gunships when you are on the ground..

You should see some of the MPEG vidoes I have of a Herc gunship at work in Afghanistan. Amazing.

Mind the cactus!!

What happens when a Harrier hits a cactus, unfortunately no pictures of the cactus.

I don't know the date for this. Apparently a USMC pilot was doing night attack practice at Yuma, Arizona, wearing NVG's. A mix up between him and the FAC over attack profiles and approach vectors resulted in him pulling out of a dive somewhat lower than he would have wished.

An inspection of the site showed cactii and other plants broken off about 4' agl (4 ft above ground level)!
