I read a comment recently that said transportation hubs are today's cathedrals - high ceilings, massive amounts of people and usually architectually pleasing or at least striking.
So my question is what is the most interesting/impressive transportation hub you've been to? It can be an airport, train station, ferry terminal, etc.
For me, it'd have to probably be the Frankfurt Central Station in Germany. It was - besides the airport - the first regular German location I saw when I went to study there. And not speaking much German, it was pretty intimidating. This summer, it will see huge numbers of soccer fans passing through it to get to their World Cup stadium of choice.
It has 24 tracks above ground, with 4 commuter tracks and 4 subway tracks underground. Nothing like trying to run from track 22 to track 1 with your train leaving in 1 minute while lugging a large backpack.
It has more than 300 long distance trains and more than 250 local trains passing through the station daily. More than 350 000 people pass through the station every single day.
How about yours?
