    Printers offered 1-Million dollars!

    Lions offer Printers $1-million

    TSN.ca Staff

    3/2/2005

Just one day after Casey Printers set out a timeline for negotiating a new deal, the B.C. Lions have presented an offer to their star quarterback.

The Lions told TSN that they have offered Printers a deal that is worth a total of $1-million. It wasn't clear whether the deal would be for three or four years.

Printers, the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2004, has set a May deadline for coming to a contract agreement. If not, it's expected that he would play out his option and explore NFL opportunities for next season.

23 year-old Printers completed 325 of 494 passes (65.8 per cent) for 5,088 yards and a league-high 35 touchdowns. He also guided a Lions offence that led the CFL in scoring (544 points), passing (351.9 yards a game) and total yards (429.2 yards).

If this is true, then what happens with Dickenson? The QB situation in BC could get very controversial well before training camp even opens

I can see them keeping both for now... or trading Dickenson

Whenever a big name player is at risk of being released or traded Toronto's name allways pops up lets say they do get DD, when and if Ray comes back to the CFL, there'll be reports he'll be going to Toronto...

Toronto has spent a fair amount of money allready...

At least Printers realizes that he should play up here for a few more years before making the jump to the NFL. He'll probably have a lot more success in the NFL in the long run because of his staying here to establish a name for himself. Of course, this is provided that he does eventually end up trying his luck there.

The flip side of the coin involves considering how much of a risk BC took in offering him this deal. He's had one brilliant year, but he began fading towards the end of the season. If Printers' production falls off, they'll look foolish for spending this money on him when they could've kept Dickenson. If, however, he does mature within a reasonable learning curve, then they're set at QB for the next little while.

As for Dickenson, it's hard to say where he'll end up. It's unlikely that Saskatchewan will pursue him, since they seem dead-set on starting Greene. He'll probably end up anywhere in the East: either Ottawa, Hamilton, or Toronto. However, I'm more inclined towards the latter two, as Ottawa seems to be experiencing financial trouble and will likely not be able to shell out the money for DD.

If the deal is 4 years at a million thats still less then what Burris is getting per year(depending on how they pay out over the seasons). But in this case Printers is worth it IMO. As for keeping Dickenson? Maybe he will try the NFL again.

I agree, 250k a year is still overpriced, but I think Printers could well be worth it. No idea what would happen to DD .

Printers' agent Jason Medlock told the Team 1040 that the Lions offered a three-year contract worth $1 million, but he was looking for the deal to be worth $1.4 over the three-year duration - which would make Printers the highest paid player in the league.

Printers, the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2004, has set a May deadline for coming to a contract agreement. If not, it's expected that he would play out his option and explore NFL opportunities for next season.

That's a good point, and I was thinking there are some pretty clear similarities between the EE and the NYY. Regardless of outside opinions, at least both clubs put the $ right back into the team.

Heck, if you're a Yankee fan or a Detroit Red Wings fan you have to love the fact that your owner wants to win every year just as bad as the fans.
