Re: Barrin Simpson on the trade block

Players should only be 9-gamed if they are unable to play for that amount of time.

This case opens that can of worms that teams so often use it as an extra spot to carry surpluses or project players that aren't ready yet.

The reason for raising it was really about the league not applying the rules uniformly across the league. That's really the main point. They tell one team that you don't need a players consent to go on the 9 game (Bombers) but tell another team they do need consent (Riders).

Just apply it fairly, that's all I would say.

Oh, and that's cool that Dominguez and Flick wouldn't have put them under the cap as Joeyjojo said. I read the original article (Press or Sun)and they have obviously done more research since then.
Did Tillman actually contact the league and get clarification on the 9 game IR and if players could refuse to go on it? I wonder because how can a player refuse to go on it when they are injured?

My understanding was that John Chick went on twice and was pulled off twice too. Morgan never went on.

The Barrin Simpson saga looks like it will be resolved next week.

According to globesports.com writer and TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor, the Canadian Football League's Board of Governors will rule on whether teams are allowed to put players on the nine-game injured list without the player's consent.

The Bombers placed Simpson on the list on Sunday, after the 31-year-old middle linebacker asked to be traded when he found out that the team was planning to reduce his playing time.

Three CFL general managers told The Canadian Press on Monday that there is a protocol involved and that players normally sign papers to acknowledge the move.

This will be a precedent setting decision. I would be a bit surprised if Simpson did come out on top in the decision.

I hope they side with Barrin. It would give more power to the players and prevent teams from stashing guys on their 9-game. That's a tricky area that I'm sure the league has been trying to close the loophole on for a while now, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them side with Barrin.
