Not a surprise, as everyone knew it was coming, just the official announcement. Good on 'em, but if they think they are getting GC 2012....
Riders to get new videoboard
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have received $1 million for a new videoboard as part of a 10-year agreement with SaskTel.
SaskTel obtains exclusive advertising rights to the videoboard, which is part of a $12-million upgrade to Taylor Field. The Roughriders also get unspecified payments from SaskTel for the duration of the deal.
"The Riders and SaskTel have had a long-term relationship and we are extremely pleased to sign this agreement," Jim Hopson, the Roughriders' president and CEO, said Friday in a release. "Having a videoboard is a key component to our plans of continuing to make Taylor Field the best place to watch a CFL football game where fans are both entertained and informed."
In December the Roughriders announced plans to upgrade Taylor Field with an eye toward landing the 2012 Grey Cup game - the 100th anniversary of the championship game.
The club expects to have the videoboard ready for its season-opening game June 12 versus the B.C. Lions.
Renovations to the Riders clubhouse are also finished and a new sound system should be in place by mid-season. Upgrades are also being to made to the stadium's east-side concessions and club seating.
