    That precident has been set long ago by players looking to try out in the NFL. This is actually one of, if not the only time I recall hearing a team stick to their guns and not give them the release to test the NFL waters.

      30% of contracts? That's far beyond what I would have guessed before all this shook out. Ticats HAD to fight this, if only to prevent the lid coming off THAT can of worms for the good of the league.

        You're correct but I wonder how many of those were a case of there being a gentleman's agreement when the contract was originally signed as opposed to the player asking to get out a year or two into the deal.

          Precedence or not, I think that reality suggests that if there is a player on teh team who DOESN'T want to be there, then he won't be effective for you on the field.

          For that reason, it's not a bad idea to let him pursue the other league.

            I understand what you're getting at....but letting Williams trash his contract through the avenue he pursued would allow a ton of other players to do the same. I'm sure you're ok with a player on another team trying it...what if it were 5 or 6 top tier players from every team in the league?

            I think we can likely agree that wouldn't be good for the CFL.

                    Exactly - and can't say I blame them. Interesting that he's agreed to play for them for another year as well as the rest of this season if he comes back...

                            Considering that guys on an NFL team's PR make more money than most CFL players, I'd say he's doing fine. I think he'll have a similar trajectory to Stefan (?sp) Logan.

                              I was referring more to the fact that Williams really dissed the Ti-Cats and the CFL imo by the way this arbitration situation was handled. But yes, I know he's certainly richer there than he was here.
