Lions Hire Tedford...

Just received an alert from TSN announcing that the Lions have hired Jeff Tedford as their new head coach...

I am mildly surprised that he decided to come back to Canada and I think this is going to make the Western Conference that much more competitive...

Been a long time since he was up in canada....
Is he heathy?
Will he OC himself? Will he hire someone will he keep khari??

Interesting times out there and if he doesn't have success right away how long before his salary is brandished more than now..

No doubt he is a great offensive coach

I am not sure that this hiring 'broke the bank'...while he certainly won't be the highest paid HC, he is likely going to be top three.

I bet it did break the bank. This is a guy who was a big time NCAA coach. I have a feeling he got a good chunk of money to come back up to the CFL.

I had mentioned on another thread that George Cortez had been his OC at California during his heyday. I'm sure they've chatted recently.

Prob with offensive hc's is they always want to do the job themselves lol

Looks like a heck of a good choice for HC. Knows and played in the Canadian game, tons of contacts in US Colleges, a well respected US College coAch, even worked with Buono. A great choice.

I wouldn't be surprised if he bolted. There was plenty of talk during the season that the relationship with his old pal Wally was strained, and that he could have been let go at any time.

Wally is a control freak it seems, and no one will handle the HC job the way he wants. Likely because none of them are him.

At what point in time does Wally walk the plank? His best-before date is seemingly past now and it may be time for some new blood in that organization starting with him....

Buono, since stepping down as HC, has not been able to find the guy that can execute what he wants with what he delivers. Neither Benavides nor Redford are bad football coaches, but haven't had success in the role. I wouldn't give up on Tedford unless he wants out at this point.
