    Ti-Cat Camp News

And some Tiger-Cat camp news as well...
    People to watch:
    * QB Jon Beutjer. The 6-foot-5, 213 pounder features an intriguing combination of size & speed. He turned heads this morning by running a 4.57 40-yard sprint (on what is considered a very slow field) & could be the Cat passer of the future if he can beat out Sankey as #3 QB.
    * K Chuck Tack. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder fills out his sweater, particularly for a kicker. He is the only challenger to Cat incumbent kicker Jamie Boreham.
    * OL Fabio Filice. The Hamilton native was the Cats' second round draft pick. He is battling a deep field to make the club as a backup offensive lineman.

Defensive Notes: Ticats 2005 draft pick Jeremy Steeves had his TC come to an unfortunate end when the DB suffered a tear in his bicep muscle. Wayne Shaw continues to play the middle, with Chris Martin, Airabin Justin, Jason Goss and Dedric Mathis filling out the back row. "D" coordinator Kavis Reed expects big things from that unit after an impressive showing down the stretch in 04. Players to watch are Jykine Bradley, John Barnes and Tad Kornegay. Bradley, Barnes and Kornegay have been getting a lot of reps in practice and are pushing hard for a starting role.
Offensive Notes: If the Cats are in good N/I shape elsewhere -getting 6 or more Canadians in at OL, DL and LB, plus fullback Radlein and safety Wayne Shaw (& if American kicker Tack doesn't beat out Jamie Boreham) -- it's not imperative to start Mike Morreale. When the club lines up Troy Davis & Julien Radlein in the backfield, leaving room for only 4 ball catchers, those receivers are likely to be DJ Flick, Craig Yeast, Archie Amerson, and newcomer Chris Brazzell, who isn't being paid all that money not to start.
    Again... thoughts?

Danny Mac isnt going to lead this team very far. And the D looks bad now that Cheatwood and Montford are gone.

Ottawa has an outside chance of finishing ahead of Hamilton this year.

They're pretty set at RB, and receiving could be worse...depends on whether Danny can get them the ball though . The offence shouldn't be their biggest problem, I don't think.

If Tack doesn't make it as a kicker, they could always try him on the line.

Yeah, I was going to ask about that...did we cut him?

Otherwise, I'm not sure I understand the circumstances here ...

We drafted him, IIRC, he came to TC last year, got hurt, went back and played for U of S Huskies in the last few games of their season.

Considering he went back to school, wouldn't we still have his rights? (unless we cut him, of course)

                      I saw that and was like "Rempel...Rempel...we had a Rempel...waaaaaaait a sec "

Hamilton will be competitive this year, but should be out of the playoffs due to a Western crossover.

Interesting, releasing a guy who had been with the CFL for 11 years! Either they think he doesn't have anything left in the tank, or he is due to make too much for the Tabbies this season...

                          Ticats Release Johnny Scott

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has released import defensive lineman Johnny Scott. Scott was participating in the 12th CFL training camp of his career after spending the previous 11 seasons in Hamilton (2003-2004), Toronto (2000-2002), B.C. (1996-1999) and Shreveport (1994-1995).
Johnny played the past two seasons in Hamilton where he recorded 59 tackles and five sacks in 29 games.
"Johnny was a great player for us last year and was a tremendous player in this league for a very long time,” said Ticats head coach Greg Marshall. “We wish Johnny all the best in his future and will miss him both on and off the field."

Why would the release him? Man it seems their Dline is going to be horrible.... wonder if Edmonton will look at him .. I'd expect some team to take a look at him..

He ain't a spring chicken any longer, I wonder if the Tabbies just saw his motor running down and figured it was time to part ways.
