After a predicted-by-me 11-7 campaign, you must have been asking yourself, "Where are the Bombers at this season?"
Luckily you have me (who is busy tomorrow)! Quick breakdown of why we will rock this year (and that one, tiny, problem)
QB: Nichols was 10-3 last season, I can't believe our record would not have been better if he'd played all year, and this year he will! I know you think you saw enough of him to guess at his ceiling, but we in Winnipeg thought that about Bowman. It wasn't a fluke, and he's in the same system for another year. In fact, continuity is the word for offence. Our back up QB is actually progressing in-house, and Lefevour as a short yardage guy might mean some fun 2 point attempts!
O-Line: Best in the League. Last year we had the second least sacks given up, and that includes the pre-Nichols and Bond change. These guys are Big, Bold and the tightest group you could imagine (and in Hardrick's case, the most energetic O-Lineman in history). They have a private group chat, and basically live as one big unit.
Running Back: Not only is Harris great, but Flanders ( back up supreme!) spent the off-season working on his receiving because, in his words, "If I need to go in, I don't want coach to have to change the calls". O'Shea has promised we will see Flanders without injuries making it necessary.
Receivers: A Good group. Our premier receiver (Adams) was injured a lot of last season, but losing Smith was a non issue, and when Stafford was brought in to replace Gurley he flat out was beat for the job by Washington (one to watch and to have on your fantasy team!)
ST: Best Long Snapper in the league, Best Kicker in the league, Best punt returner in the league. Not sold at all on our presumed kick returner (Lankford).
D-Line: We got Okalaugpsodfsdfdpofpo to bookend Westerman, and Nevis to improve the middle. I'll believe in both when they show me, last year was supposed to be an upgrade too. Interesting is that the pre-camp plan was for Jake Thomas to start beside Nevis, and now Cory "Poop" Johnson has taken that spot. Expecting but not confident in improvement.
Linebackers: *sigh* Hurl in not Bass. Leggett is probably the best defender in the league, but.... Hurl is not Bass. Hurl is not Bass..... Hurl is not really a legit starting MLB..... *sigh* Really hoping the line is improved....
DBs: Lights out! Lights out! Amazing group last year, only change is Frederick out as a starter in favour of Brandon Alexander (once again a straight out job earning) Alexander is a big boy, all kinds of athletic. For game one, Bruce Johnson is out, and will be replaced by Roc Carmichael, who was playing in Leggett's spot during camp... which is interesting. Will these guys continue to rack up the INTs? Yes, actually, they game for it. I don't know how many games in a row they need to do it, before people belive they can do it again, but they will.
So, short summary: O is Great, Teams are top-notch, D is excellent.
2nd in the West, and a Cup raising for my dear wife's birthday!
(oh, and even if they aren't [I]quite[I] that good, they will slaughter the GreenWhites.
Game on, suckers!
