but it's just as easy to turn that around... you don't stick around that long unless you are well marketed. And in Jovi's case they went through a time when being marketed was more important than quality.
I'd say the same thing for Madonna. I don't necessarily like Jovi's or her music that much, but I respect their ability to market themselves.
As for content... here we go with opinion again! For me, personally, I've never heard anything that band did that others before them hadn't already done or those after didn't do better. My opinion. 
But I grew up with Alice and Zep and Sabbath and Beatles and Stones and Kinks and Doors and Floyd and Hendrix and Deep Purple, etc.

Madonna marketed herself by whoring herself and then making her children/children's books the centrepiece of her image revamp. Bon Jovi has been about music all along. And I'd say that Bon Jovi was at the forefront of arena rock, but what's interesting, is that they still play that style...successfully....and very few others can.
