I agree that dumping Montford saves a big chunnk of change as does trading Sanchez. I don't think that Maas saves as much as some may thinks as they only signed him to the 300k contract just before they traded him (if Maciocia tells the truth...no reason not to believe him). Please correct me if I am wrong. I was under the impression that Maas was a bargain considering his talent. I suppose 200k would still be a bargain though wouldn't it. Sadly since Nealon re-negged before last season it was rumoured his salary was around 200k as well...embarassing!

To tell you the truth, after the Al Ford era in the 90's and having had to watch him ride out the talent that Bill Baker handed to him until it resulted in what I had to watch in 98 and 99 I am enjoying the spending being done by Shiv and the Gang.
Oh yeah, Sanchez... man, that guy must have had a heck of an agent to get a deal that bloated

Maas was making peanuts up until last year and going into his option year, but signed a nice contract just before Ray returned... then they renegotiated it again just before they traded him to the Cats. So I think he was getting decent money last year, but they definitely bumped him up again just before the trade.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

I thought Maas was making $150,000-$200,000 last year, then got a healthy increase when he went to Hamilton.

Yeah, 98 and 99 were painful years to be a Rider fan. Never even mind the record, as bad as that was. It was just boring football to watch, played by a bunch of guys who busted their ass but just didn't have the talent.

and just to clarify, the "reports" were that Maas was in the 125-150k range before the deal signed after GC....

....regardless of the accuracy, the thing with that contract often forgotten is that for an established QB in this league, yeah it's very reasonable....however that is still a fair chunk of coin for any other position player (in line with the elite RB's), so when that amount shed is dismissed as being "small change" it really isn't......(it is likely covering both Khari's deal and Jyles -assuming we even keep both-)

Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.

how do you figure...now the Esks spent the most on salaries last year and so had the most salary to dump in order to fall in line. And the Riders are "Way Over". Well, mark this thread and we'll see. Let's see how many chickens in these eggs.....

In 1998 I made all 9 home games, travelling from my hometown north of S'toon..that's a 3.5 hr drive...which actually became a 5 hour drive given that it was a large-scale small-town bar crawl basically. But I 'sort of' remember being at games and watching db's give up on plays in the second half because things were out of reach. I remember alot of players quitting during games. They wondered why they only got like 19k fans some nights...

                        Things look better now.

Here's to hoping things can get back on that track this season.

                            Gee thanks...lol

This season, I just want to beat the Stamps...every chance we get. They, and the Calgary media...bloody Dan Toth, need to have the big damn grins smacked of of thier faces. Sure would like to buy a playoff ticket this year too but I'll settle for beating the stamps and watching Burris, Copeland and Lewis drag their poubting faces and sorry asses of the field.

Yes, that I will agree on. I want to see the Stamps get their ass kicked every chance possible.
