      Throw in Durden too.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

          Holmes is staying put......

HAMILTON - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will have Corey Holmes in the lineup for a few more seasons.

The CFL team re-signed the import running back to a three-year contract Monday.

Holmes, who was runner-up for the CFL's outstanding player award last season, has run for 369 yards on 64 carries and one touchdown in 10 games this season, and caught 33 passes for 263 yards.

"Corey is one of the most exciting players in the CFL and a true leader in the locker-room in addition to being a tremendous person," Ticats GM Marcel Desjardins said in a statement. "I am thrilled that Corey will be a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this season and in the years to come."

Holmes also returned 25 punts for 125 yards and 22 kickoffs for 472 yards in 2006.

The Ticats acquired Holmes from the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a trade on April 12, 2005, along with non-import safety Scott Gordon and the Riders' first-round pick in the 2007 CFL Canadian College Draft in exchange for the first selection in the 2006 Ottawa dispersal draft.

The biggest issue with Holmes are his horrible hands. He is VERY uncomfortable catching the football. He can run the ball and return kicks. When you talk about versatility strictly on the offensive side of the ball, Ranek is actually more versatile than Holmes.

Last but not least, despite the fact the Riders were in the top 3rd in the league for salaries, the Eskimos are still #1. You can't afford him.

I wonder if the Cats signed him to a 3 year deal to make a possible trade better for them...they could get more in return if the team they traded him knew he was locked up for a few years...Either that or Ranek is on the block now, because if Lumsden is going to back next season, they don't need Ranek and Holmes.

I can't see Hamilton getting anything for Ranek. No team in the league would improve by adding Ranek to thier roster. I certainly can't see the Eskies picking him up.
                  Our balls are bigger, eh.

This makes it even worse for Hamilton. 2 defensive players that wouldn't play?
