Re: Newser Today
I think that is a job position that is not required. A clean break would have been better. It's not as if Hugh will have any shortage of corporate boards than he can join (probably for a lot more money).Originally posted by Uncle BobbyI am wondering about Hugh Campbell's new "consultant" title.
Does that mean he works for God or does God go to him for advice?

Re: Newser Today
Should be an interesting one....
Will it be an overhaul or just a bit of shuffling titles and roles?

......so basically a news conference to announce new titles and that is it....
In other news the Esks Janitor is now known as "Director of Sanitation control"
AJ Gass is no longer known as Middle Linebacker but rather "Chief Linebacker in charge of Middle Operations"
....whoooooopeeeee....

Sounds like a buddy of mine who was a gas jockey years ago and called himself a petroleum transfer technician.Originally posted by KnuckleChuckerhttp://www.edmontonsun.com/Sports/Es...2/2209181.html

Re: Newser Today
both actually make sense "technically speaking".......however, that also means that we are in effect without an actual "GM".
I suppose this is an effort to define roles a little better (likely for the media's sake as it seemed none of them knew who did what in regards to the Esks front office), however IMO it is also convoluting things somewhat.
Does this mean we will be persuing not only an actual offensive co-ordinator, but also a person to take the mantle of GM this year or will Macciocia's new title be in effect the GM role as well? Before you insult a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you insult him, you'll be a mile away, and have his shoes.

Re: Newser Today
So does this mean that DM will be in charge of signing players to contracts in addition to being the head coach?? That is a mistake IMO. I realize that Wally Buono does it, but I have never thought that having one guy doing the dual role of head coach and signing contracts is the best idea. In the offseason, DM's job is to sign players for the least amount of money possible on behalf of the team. During those negotiations, he must give players reasons for paying them a certain amount or justify why they aren't worth another amount. Then, during the season, he puts a different hat on as head coach and must build the player up and have him play for you. Tear him down, then build them up...repeat.Originally posted by Opusboth actually make sense "technically speaking".......however, that also means that we are in effect without an actual "GM".

IMO it opens the door for a certain amount of distrust and/or hard feelings between the players and DM. The players appear to like DM, but inevitably, this may cause problems down the road.
Then again, it works for Wally although most who play for him don't like him. Mind you, they win so it's hard to argue with success.

Re: Newser Today
Yeah, well.....he also said he was only going to coach on an interrum basis too.........(both here and Calgary actuallyOriginally posted by AngelusHiggins said after being in Edmonton, he'd never do both jobs again because it puts too much strain on the relationship with the player...
)

Re: Newser Today
One thing I do like is the Esks are wasting absolutely no time in making changes, the season isnt even over and we are already working on improving. Makes me feel a tiny bit better.Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.
