Brandon Guillory, the Edmonton Eskimos player who was carted off the field midway through a pre-season game last Friday against Calgary with an apparent spinal contusion, is making a solid recovery.
The second-year defensive lineman returned to Edmonton on Monday following a battery of tests in Calgary. Dave Jamieson, the Eskimos' director of communications and marketing, said Guillory still requires more tests and the team is not putting a timeframe on his return to the lineup.
"He looks good and sounds good. Things may have worked out okay there," Jamieson told Sportsnet.ca on Wednesday.
Jamieson talked to Edmonton reporters on Tuesday and indicated to the Edmonton Sun that while laying on the turf following a clean block by Calgary offensive lineman Bobby Singh that temporarily caused him paralysis, he heard the voice of God.
"I am down there and kind of worried then, I kid you not, I heard a voice," said Guillory. "It was like: 'So, what is it going to be?' And right then and there I knew it was God and I knew it was him just doing something with my life. And it was him just making my faith more strong through him. I am feeling wonderful. I am feeling real blessed."
Guillory regained feeling in all his extremities and after being loaded on to a stretcher and carted off the field, he signaled to the crowd indicating he was doing okay.
Guillory may participate in some light jogging on Wednesday but can't participate in any contact drills for three weeks to four weeks.
Meanwhile, Eskimo veteran middle linebacker A.J. Gass will be sidelined at least a month after suffering a knee injury in practice on Monday. He tore meniscus and is slated to undergo surgery.
