That first round pick is looking better all the time, eh?
Eskimos acquire kicker from Lions
(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have acquired non-import kicker/punter Rob Pikula and a third round selection (23rd overall) in the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft from the BC Lions in exchange for Edmonton’s third round selection (18th overall) in this years’ Draft.
Signed as a free agent with Saskatchewan in 2006, Pikula was a late cut from the ‘Riders training camp. He signed in June 2006 with BC and appeared in three games for the Lions that season. In June 2007, Pikula was dealt to Winnipeg for a conditional draft pick in the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft. The former Western Ontario star played in 15 games for the Blue Bombers last season, primarily as the punter, but Pikula demonstrated excellent proficiency when called on to handle field goals and kickoffs. He enjoyed his best game as a pro on August 10 at BC Place when he led the Bombers to 22 – 21 win over the Lions. On that night, Pikula was good on three field goals, including a 33 yard game winner. Pikula finished the season on the injured list and did not dress for the playoffs or Grey Cup. He was dealt back to BC in an off-season trade for defensive back Sebastian Clovis.
Eskimo Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Danny Maciocia says “ Rob has the ability to handle all facets of the kicking game and he’s excelled whenever he’s been given the opportunity”.
