    Oct. 10 Game Notes

Great game, I wasn't expecting this at all. Been a long time since we won in BC Place, I saw a lot of good things out there.

QB - this guy needs more credit then his stats will say. The o-line was getting pushed back, he was making throws while falling over....he kept his mind and made smart decisions out there. No TDs, and an INT, but he played phenomenally. BC got one sack, a lot of that is due to Ricky.

RB - McCarty had a great game. He fought for everything out there. BC played great against the run, our o-line didn't help out a whole lot, but they were up against the best d-line in the league. What I was most impressed with was McCarty's blocking though....you can never say too many good things about a good blocking RB. He picked up a lot of blitzes tonight.

WR - Campbell made some big plays for us tonight. Kamau was solid. Mann filled in nicely for Stamps, he gets better every week. It's a real shame that Prator had that TD pass called back on an iffy holding call. It was a beautiful catch, highlight reel material. We have great depth at receiver.

OL - We went up against the best d-line and did pretty well. Only gave up one sack. Yeah, Ray did a lot to avoid for than one, but we still did a good job on the tackles. Garrick Jones let nothing come by him, he was a beast out there and was great at run blocking. Gotta give props to Armstrong as well. Rookie playing on his third different spot on the line this season, going up against a guy with 20 sacks, he performed. Ya, held a few times, an obvious one that didn't get called on the first play of the game, some iffy ones that did get called, but I'd just like to say 'great game' to both our tackles.

DL - Guillory is a beast. Some may say, why did we ever bench this guy? Well, he wasn't playing that well, he wasn't playing up to his potential. It lit a fire beneath him, he was talking about it on the sidelines, he's brought his A game ever since being benched. Most importantly, he's keeping contain all the time too. Most won't, but I'll give credit to the coaching staff. They saw a guy not performing up to his potential, and they did something about it, and now he's playing well. Davis also played well, and Taylor took a step forward as well. He's not playing great, but he's occupying blockers, that's what you want those middle guys to do. He's not disruptive, which is why I'd like another inside guy who can do something (not Wayne)....but Taylor improved.

LB - Good game by Onatolu. I'll talk about Coe here because he's a linebacker. He shouldn't be at safety, he was slow, he doesn't fit. Buhl has experience at safety. Put Tristan in at corner and have Buhl go to safety. We're lucky they weren't able to exploit that. I noticed that they were rotating Garrett and Onatolu back there as well. Not sure what there plan was, but It'd be nice to have a back-up safety is all I'm saying....two things to say about Augie 1) He got run over by Stefan Logan 2) he has no gap control, he played way out of position and allowed cut backs.

DB - I've been hard on Younger. He's playing where he should be now. This is what I was expecting when we got him. It took him longer to adjust than it should have, but he's playing good now and that's all that matters. Lenny continued to play phenomenally, he's a great tackler, best we've had in the secondary in the last few years. Buhl also had another pretty good game. Goss was hit and miss

ST - I'd like to mention Doggett, he played well all game, took on blockers and still made tackles. Only one bad play that I saw from him.

Reffing - it wasn't that bad, despite what many here will say. I agree with the calls on the reviews. I don't agree with how the Murphy situation ended up, but I'll live with in hopes that Murphy gets suspended. Not just because of this one incident, but because of his history as well. Holding calls were iffy, some on our favour, some not.....won't complain.

Coaches - gotta give credit here. Many of us here don't like them, but no one can deny that they called a good game out there. It's what we've been asking for. Commitment to the run game, blitzes on D, long shots taken. Draws, screens...not all dink and dunk.

We dominated this game. We went into BC Place, and we owned the game. I'm not sure what the final stats were on time of possession or plays per team, but we killed them. Absolutely wore them down, controlled the game, took home the W. That's something to be proud of. Two weeks ago in Winnipeg I told you guys not to get your heads down about this team, and I told you that cleaning house would be a terrible decision. Guess what, we've had two solid games, and WE"RE RUNNING THE BALL!!!!!!!

Now, next week we have a chance to sweep a home and home against BC. It's going to be tough, but we'll be at home, and we need to keep doing what we've been doing. Also, we'll be getting Robinson, Perry, Stamps, and Harris back. Those are some key players, and gives us DEPTH. Our back-ups have now proven themselves. Buhl is playing well, and will likely be a solid 6th guy to have in case of injury. He can play every position out there, so it's good to have someone like that. Perry likely won't be a starter, but our guys we're getting tired out there, we need a rotation, and Perry can help spell guys and keep everyone fresh, that helps us out big time....and then we got AJ Harris, who is an animal.

I am confident, I am feeling good about this team. This victory for us tonight was huge. Let's hope we show up like this next week.

    Reffing was an absolute embarrassment.

I thought Goss had broken his neck. It's a miracle he was alright.

The worst officiated game of any sport I have ever seen in my life.

If he had broken his neck he wouldn't have been moving. I could tell by the fact that he was moving around and in pain that it wasn't that bad. It's weird to say, but if he's feeling pain it's good. It just looked like a burner. Most likely brought on by Romero. Doesn't excuse Murphy's actions though. Romero had every right to go in there, and I'm glad he did. We need more people with his fire on this team.

          Some of my brief thoughts.
Kabongo owes Prator dinner or something.

Like you 'berz I love Lenny Williams.

Buhl was extremely, extremely quiet out there. Which is a good thing. I know BC couldn't do much with there limited TOP, but they threw to Buhl maybe once. Let 'em throw to L. Williams he is a solid ball player and great playmaker. Younger is starting to come around, excellent game from him.

A rotation of Guillory-Davis/Wayne/Romero-Perry/Clutts suits me just fine.

And I hope AJ Harris is ready to go and we just pound the rock next game with him and CM to just physically beat up the lions.

I'm actually in agreement with him......it was the worst I've seen as well, and that's saying a lot.

For cripes sake, even after the Murphy thing, they allowed Floyd to double roundabout Kamau before throwing him to the turf.....

I didn't particularly like that either, but I don't think the whistle had gone yet...that's probably why they let it go.

(If it did, then that was a missed call.)

They seemed to let that go a lot tonight - didn't blow the whistle when guys were wrapped up and forward progress was stopped.

They blew it dead pretty quick when Logan fumbled near the goal line......

I thought we let up a little bit too much in the 4th Q. to allow those 10 points, but the defense ultimately stepped up.

Shame about the TD being called back, but the refs will inevitably call the holding penalities most often on the big plays.

Well, it's almost 1 AM and I just got back from the game. Thanks to Giant Moo for arranging the tix! We had a great time, helped out of course by the dominant play of our D.

The Murphy thing happened the opposite end of the field from us. Just saw it now. He did the same thing last year to some Rider, didn't he?

                        Alright, I need some sleep.
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

I guess the only down side for me is the second half scoring. This is the second game in a row that the Esks have got a big lead going into the half and not really scored anything in the second. (not sure against winnipeg, but they only scored 3 points last night in the second half). I hope that this is not a repeat of previous years were this was a huge problem.

Other then that I think both of the Esks lines played better then BCs and that is saying a lot considering they showed on TSN last night that with just Johnston, Wake and another guy (name escapes me right now) they would be 2nd in the sack count for the league. 1 sack by BC 5 and a forced fumble by Edmonton, that is huge.

I thought we should have tried to stretch the field a little more then we did. The swing passes weren't very effective last night.

Suitor and Cuthbert made it clear several times that BC's D line is the best and they were just waiting for them to erupt so they could get their man goo flowing in the booth. But that didn't happen. Instead it was our D line that stole the thunder and were still not given too much credit. It was all due to an "off night" by the Lions...

Sucked that Geroy Simon caught that 6 yard pass. Was hoping he would have to start that streak all over again.

McCarty should be holding a football all week 24/7. Don't want to see a great back have a case of fumbilitis.
