    Esks Sign Jerome Haywood

    Per Snet ticker.
"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Why? I think it is a bad move.
If we were put on this earth to help others, what were the others put on earth for?

31 years old. 8 year pro.

He small at 5'8'' but he has always had a good motor. Decent run-stopper. I think a good, experienced short-term addition to hopefully rotate along the middle of the line.

Bet D-Ro's out for a few weeks, then. Which is lousy.

That said, I like the move. We only have two real true DT's with any kind of experience, it seems (D-Ro and Taylor)...X-Jax and Sterling are both rooks. He'll add experience, he always seemed to get decent push and was good at plugging holes and stopping the run.

Since he's been cut for a good while IIRC and no one's picked him up, I'll assume he'll come relatively cheaply, as well.

I must have missed it.. what happened to Romero again ?

          So the line will be Ellis - ?? - Taylor - Richardson/Peach

          ?? could be Haywood, Romero?

            Should never have cut Davis.

I can't believe that there aren't other DL out there on some team's PR that would be in better shape than Haywood.

J.P. Bekasik 2007 first round pick DT on the Al's PR NI who lists his hometown as Edmonton

EDIT: Possibly making the switch to playing OT. Was, however, looked upon as a NFL draftable DT.

Are we running into cap issues that we are bargain hunting?

Maybe it's a case of the best available in a short period of time. I hope our scouting staff is working some OT.

Well, in the last week...Haywood, Randee Drew, Reggie Hunt, and now Byron Parker. I'd say they've earned their paycheques.
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

When the Esks get down to short, slightly overweight, otherwise-attractive men, I'm ready to suit up.

Some good signings there. But picking off a practise roster is much different than finding that unknown diamond in the rough.

Those signings sound more like DM's doing than the scouts.

I think at this time of year there is no upside to taking a young guy and hoping he is a diamond in the rough or if you see potential. Take guys who have played in the league and will be ready to play at opening kickoff.
