Esks Sign Jerome Haywood
"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Re: Esks Sign Jerome Haywood
31 years old. 8 year pro.
He small at 5'8'' but he has always had a good motor. Decent run-stopper. I think a good, experienced short-term addition to hopefully rotate along the middle of the line.Quote from Inquiring Mind:
Of course stamphater is sacred... we all worship the ground he walks on.

Re: Esks Sign Jerome Haywood
Bet D-Ro's out for a few weeks, then. Which is lousy.
That said, I like the move. We only have two real true DT's with any kind of experience, it seems (D-Ro and Taylor)...X-Jax and Sterling are both rooks. He'll add experience, he always seemed to get decent push and was good at plugging holes and stopping the run.
Since he's been cut for a good while IIRC and no one's picked him up, I'll assume he'll come relatively cheaply, as well. We're cheering Fight Fight Fight On Eskimos...

J.P. Bekasik 2007 first round pick DT on the Al's PR NI who lists his hometown as Edmonton
EDIT: Possibly making the switch to playing OT. Was, however, looked upon as a NFL draftable DT.Last edited by pete; 09-28-2009, 12:11 PM.The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

Are we running into cap issues that we are bargain hunting?Originally posted by dickwhad View PostI can't believe that there aren't other DL out there on some team's PR that would be in better shape than Haywood.
Maybe it's a case of the best available in a short period of time. I hope our scouting staff is working some OT.

Well, in the last week...Haywood, Randee Drew, Reggie Hunt, and now Byron Parker. I'd say they've earned their paycheques.Originally posted by Uncle Bobby View PostAre we running into cap issues that we are bargain hunting?

Some good signings there. But picking off a practise roster is much different than finding that unknown diamond in the rough.Originally posted by glenvb View PostWell, in the last week...Haywood, Randee Drew, Reggie Hunt, and now Byron Parker. I'd say they've earned their paycheques.
Those signings sound more like DM's doing than the scouts.

That is true. Our last set of gems still ain't that shiny.Originally posted by Party Time View PostI think at this time of year there is no upside to taking a young guy and hoping he is a diamond in the rough or if you see potential. Take guys who have played in the league and will be ready to play at opening kickoff.
