    Perhaps not an all Import D Backfield?

    DM talking about our top two draft picks, and an interesting tidbit about Scott Gordons retirement.

    As for Borhot, the Esks expect him to compete right away for Gordon's vacant job.

    "Saleem is the top-rated free safety coming out of the CIS and there is a very strong possibility he can come to camp and start for us," said Maciocia. "We've known for the last little while that Scott Gordon would be retiring, so we needed to make sure we kept the ratio intact at the safety position.

    "He was one projected to go in the top three rounds. We felt like if we didn't do so, he would be gone by the time we picked in the third round, so we chose to move up and secure the free safety position by selecting a player we think will play there for many, many years."

    Borhot is a Calgary native who, in 2005, was the team MVP with the Okanagan Sun of the Canadian Junior Football League, recording seven interceptions in 10 games. The Esks had flown him into town for a workout recently.

    Might this rule out the speculation of an all Import Defensive Backfield that I, Dies and a few others have speculated?
    Only time will tell.

    If Braidwood can earn a starting DT spot, with Sterling backing him up for 20 snaps a game, it gives us the option to do that if Richardson, Nugent, or Borhot don't work out. Obviously they would hope to have Borhot be able to push for the starting job to give us more flexibility.

    I know with the new import DB's they will be pushing Goss very hard. the Esks like Goss but I think they want to see more from him in certain aspects. Again if we can have an increased NI presence on the Dline, Goss might see time at safety in certain situations?
    I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

        I don't think a safety rotation would be the ideal thing to have right now. 4 of our 5 DBs next season will be new starters, these guys need some chemistry so that they can work together. Rotating Goss between safety and corner would just hurt us IMO.

        If Nugent, Elliot, and Borhot are all inadequate and can't fit the billing for two minute drills....then maybe it's something we have to do, but obviously the ideal situation is that one of those 3 guys can be good enough to hold down the spot...not necessarily be a star, but just good enough to not be a liability. If not, then I'd prefer we just go to a 5 import backfield from the beginning and stick to it. Hopefully Braidwood and Sterling can rotate that position...or else we bring in Glatt or TSP on the hopefully limited number of snaps that we need 4 imports on the line too.

        Although, when you think of it, 2 of our top 4 receivers will likely be NIs (Kamau and Talbot)...and then 4 NIs on the OL.....all we really need is one of those 3 safeties, Braidwood, TSP, Glatt, Lumsden, or McCarty to step up and be a starter.

          My guess would be run support and tackling on the edge, as well as not giving up inside position on inside-breaking routes. I think he was moved to corner because he got dinked and dunked on a few times when he was at half.

                        It's not as if we're selling out and relying on this guy to come in and start. We knew Gordon would retire, so we brought back Okpro (who likely isn't a starter, but he has experience with our system), and we still have Nugent and Elliot. Elliot showed decent athletic ability and improvement as the season went on. Last season, he was in over his head, but now I'm looking to see some improvement from him. Beyond that, Nugent is a former 2nd round pick who has starting experience as well. Both have issues with their game, but they are decent players and Borhot will have to prove himself quite a bit to win that job.

                        I see DMs comments as simply showing some confidence in a player while hyping the draft for the fans. Much ado about nothing...
