    General Manager

Would you expect your team's GM to be based in your home town and running things from an office at the teams HQ?

Would this not be how it should be? Not like :

That’s right, he drove here from Edmonton Saturday.

I dunno I think Id rather have my GM working out of the teams HQ, not at his actual home.

    Re: General Manager

While there is surprisingly little a GM needs to be in town for, as far as technical responsibilities. I think having the GM near the HC can only be helpful, though.

I also think that that article says that a man decided to not be in town for the first AWAY game, so as to attend his son's (?) birthday, and will be in town going forward. Not really unreasonable.

      Re: General Manager

I think he should definintely be living here as well as his family. School's out...there's no reason they can't move here now. By not moving here it's viewed (by myself at least) as not being committed to the team/community...or knowing/hoping he won't be here for long. I'll give credit to Danny and Higgins before him...they both lived here and thrived in our communities. I know Tom still makes his rounds when he's in town and Sharon has said she loved living here.
There very may well be not a lot that he needs to do here that he can't do from his house...but he's got a spiffy new office that's sitting empty for crying out loud. Why not make those long distance calls from Edmonton?

Not a big deal to me, I think there are a few GM's in the league that have residences outside the City they work in. I think Jim Popp is one of those guys and spends a significant amount of time in the Carolina's (IIRC). None the less cue the music, it must be Tillman bashing time....

I would kind of prefer to see him living and working here. That being said tho, after reading some of the stuff that gets said on these boards I dunno if I would want to bring my wife and children here either...

I don't blame him for not wanting to bring his family here yet. I'm sure he's a clever enough fellow to understand he may not be the most popular person in Edmonton, and doesn't want to expose his family to any crazies who might lash out after a loss. That being said, I'd rather the GM did live and work close to the team he controls.

Most of the CFL GMs spend the fall touring NFL camps, NCAA schools and lining up players for the next year's tryouts. Jim Barker when he was with Calgary did his radio show from all over the United States in various cities. One of his best shows was done from the sidelines of the Jacksonville Jaguars training camp.

not my intention. I personally can't recall other GMs who do that. It just , to me, shows an actual lack of commitment to your team. Whats different if Popp does reign from Carolina, is Sask is tillman's former employer, and some argue where his heart still is. IMO it shows me where he'd rather be and GMing.. If he wants people to be on his bandwagon, then he should show some commitment to the team. Just IMO not a bash or the like.. I'd rather have a GM who is where his team is.

Then again I guess our (future) GM is here. Hervey is always around here

Yup you need to be all over the states scouting talent, it's not like Regina is that far from Edmonton anyways.

Kinda hard to tour NFL camps when a lockout is going on....

But regardless, he spent significant time in Edmonton during training camp, and was there for the game. What exactly do you want from him? For all we know, KR told him he doesn't like having a GM hanging around the team too much.
