First playoff game I've attended in person and one of the louder crowd experiences (the exception would be some of the 50 000 plus crowds we've had for the LD return match over the last couple of decades) for a CFL game I've ever had even though there were only 30 000 of us. Most of our section was standing for the entire 4th quarter. People running up and down the stairs high fiving and hugging complete strangers. Great experience.

Of anyone that I talked to that didn't go to the game, but wanted to...the biggest reasons I heard were...
          a) weather
          b) coming off a long weekend/being out of town due to that
          c) birthday parties for their kids (we're talking like 1st birthdays here)
          d) anything but sending a message to EEFC...

You missed a great crowd and a great live game...but as long as you're happy in your cave, with your little "I HATE TILLMAN" flag to wave at anyone that drives by...then that's fine with us dude.

As a side note, and a sad state of how much faith a lot of fans had...not many expected us to make it and made their plans accordingly...the crowd that was there, made up for their numbers with sheer energy.

Re: Hey edmonton make some noise!!!

I drove up from Lethbridge to see this game and had an absolute blast. The crowd was really feeling it and the D definitely fed off of it. I was actually a bit stunned when they announced the attendance. A bit disappointed at those small numbers but you could tell fans had waited a long time for this cuz they made up for lack of numbers. It sounded a lot louder than just 30,000 people.

Another possible explanation for the smaller turnout is we only knew we were getting a home game a week ago, and had to wait another day to find out which weekend that home game would be on. Throw in the cold weather and the long weekend and its not surprising, though still slightly disappointing.

But who gives a crap about that right now, time for the boys to spend a couple weeks in Van City.

I agree. Had the family "Bums in seats" by 9:30 in Red Deer and came home in time to watch the East semi and go to our home playoff. I was hoping for the other side of 40k, but what can you do. DM and his half decade of non-excellance has driven away the excitement a bit and it might take a few years to get that walkup crowd back. Start with student night on the LD rematch.

I woulda given my left testicle to have been apart of the crowd. Sounded good on TV.

Terrible turnout, 30k. Wasn't even that cold, suck it up people.

i hope they did and besides your point which i agree with(tillman)

when theres only a 30 thousand 50/50. i say time to revamp things. I have been to preseason games with higher purses then that.
whats it gonna take for them to make changes?
ad's on the field during reg games thinks maybe time for a change. This is not about crowd noise this about the EEFC making money folks.

i have been really bored with the whole package i don't know if it's becuse i have been to so many games but the EEFC really need to change it up.
i get tradition but the whole presentaion is not exciting anymore for me, firworks and loud crowds are great but the atomphere is just plain boring.
like i don't wanna see some half drunk trying to make a plastic burger, the pizza box thing is lame. chris sheets makes me wanna puke how lame he is on the mic. the wave was cool when i was ten...
If and when the seats go they need to think of revamping the whole game day atomsphere. and i side note get rid of the stupid beer girls all they do is make it hard to walk around the concourse we have beer stands for that no need to have 40 people selling crap beer.. when theres better crap beer in the concourse. i could go on.....

For the first playoff game since 04, you would think there would have been more. 30k announced means less in the seats as we all know. As the Sun article spoke of, there was little to no hype at the bars etc where it was nice and warm. For november it wasn't really cold, so where did the attendence fall off the rails?

I'd be curious for our resident stats expert GF2 to offer some attendence stats for this season along with previous playoff games compared to years gone by.

Re: Hey edmonton make some noise!!!

Here is an article from Damian Cox in the Star today. It seems Montreal had attendance issues as well with 33,500 a little more than 2 thousand more than were at CW. That suggests to me that the league and teams didn't do a great job marketing the game...same issues East (Big O holds around 60K-lots of empty holes) and West

Re: Hey edmonton make some noise!!!

The diehards here can complain if you want about "nancy boys and knitters", but add me to the group of people not going to the game. My kids wouldn't have enjoyed it - I would NOT have subjected them to the cold - and I place a higher priority on family over football.

Whatever you THINK is going on, and why people don't come is one thing. The REALISTS take what is given to them as fact, and work with it...and these FACTS tell us why it's so important to (a) have a good television package that provides revenue to the team to make them less dependant on ticket sales, and (b) obtain national sponsors to maximize revenue dollars.

Oh come on.. Really, was it that cold? I sucked it up in Winnipeg in 08 when we played in the East semi final. It was a hell of a lot colder than +3. Put a jacket an an Eskimo toque on the kids and support the team.

I was disappointed in the turnout as well. It wasn't that cold!! I had a buddy bring his 4 year old to the game and had a great time! Dress for it! I personally find it pretty easy to dress for the cold!

                                agree with the rant
other than the football, and the cheerleaders the rest of the show was garbage.

no half time show, just some lame video. More than two weeks prep time and all they could do is give us recycled video?

absolute crap for sound in the upper deck, The odd time it is good so I don't think it is the system but the ---- at the controls. It makes me wonder who's nephew is in charge.

EE TV is nothing but cheap ads. I see more ads at the game than when sitting at home. The one or two replays squeezed between the ads are of plays that did't need to be seen twice. I usually tape each game so I can see what actually happened.

Ever since RL took over the entertainment has gone down, and the annoying ads have gone up. Concession food and beer prices have gone up, and quality has gone down. Perfect way to run a monopoly, until you customers run away.

I'll be there next year, but the new guy better make some big changes to the game day.
