You leave the country for a while and all hell breaks loose...

Just soaking in all the comments made in wake of the trade, and it leaves me with not much to say that hasn't already been said by fans, media and others alike. The concept of trading RR wasn't something I was opposed to and I asked the question 2 years ago if moving him would be best for the health of the franchise moving forward. That said the return one gets for moving a franchise player rarely is even on a today scale, but the return received in this deal is so laughable it should be on an episode of the twilight zone.

That said, I'm not surprised, upset, or much of anything. I just simply shake my head thinking about what's going to be left when 2.9 is eventually moved on. The records of the Leos, Argos and Riders in the seasons that followed in the form of depleated assets do not bode well for what lays ahead long term. As this season went on, I became more of an interested observer, but my heart is no longer with this franchise. The actions by those at the top have proven to me they no longer deserved my dedication. That said, I wonder what Doug Goss thought of this move, since ultimately he spawned it...

I would like to extend a thank you to those who have sent me PM's sharing how their perpective on "things" have changed.

Whomever it is that takes over after Sonic moves on is going to have a hell of a mess to clean up. My only hope left to me is that by then the few people still remaining that have real Eskimo blood in them are still around.

I thought you'd be one person that was happy about the trade. After all you've been mentioning for years his slow release, his "terrible, worst in the league" play action fake mechanics, etc.

The way it is and the way it's always going to be in professional sports now.. is veteran players most likely get traded for young assets and draft picks. You don't usually see value for value trades anymore no matter which league you're in. In the NFL, good players usually get shipped away for draft picks. NBA; stars get traded for young players and draft picks (Pau Gasol, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, etc). Obviously, it's starting to become that way in the CFL as well. You are right on one hand though.. I wouldn't have traded RR to the Argos unless we got Boyd or Owens in return. It just 'aint like that anymore.

All in all, I wouldn't have made any deal for RR to tell you the truth unless we gutted the other persons team.

My criticism of Ray was not as such that I wanted him gone, but that I wanted him to improve at he things he could get better at. He wasn't going to develop a stronger arm or quicker feet, but he could improve his play action, he could work to eliminate his penchant to not look off db's and throw into overloaded coverage, he could do many of the little things that all add up to maintaining his level of play deep into his career, such as ball security, etc..

When I see the work AC has put into evolving his game to extent his playing career and keep it at a high level, it was not unfair to ask our QB to work on the same types of things. For a few years now, he was our best player, but I guess I ask those types of guys to keep improving, in tur making those around him do the same. I just didn't see it as often and consistent as I felt he was capable of.

One draft pick, a 27 yr old kicker, and a career backup with injury history is a complete joke. If you can't get better roster players then you mine for more picks. This was a fire sale, no more no less.

It's an interesting situation here as well in that the CFL draft is not the main source of talent for a team like the NBA/NFL/NHL drafts are.

The CFL draft provides good NI talent, but since NI's are only half a team (and are not often necessarily the main guys on that team, depending on position)...drafting isn't as important and is probably even more of a crapshoot than the other drafts are.

So in that sense draft picks are even less valuable here...you're not going to draft a QB or a MLB or a power forward to build around.

CFL draft picks are lottery tickets.
"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Trades always are an iffy proposition. You take a big chance trading any starter and getting futures. If your team is deemed not progressing with some of the current personnel then it is time to make a change. What we got for RR is debatable, but there is potential depending on who we draft. If it doesn't turn out then at least we would have bought 2 years to see what our young QBs are capable of.

What in the hell is this supposed to mean? We dump our QB for peanuts and wander in the desert for two years or more while we try and find another QB. Is that the 'plan'?

There is nothing to debate!! Tillman got fleeced by the Argonauts and regardless of how this turns out (good or bad), his time here in Edm will be remembered by this trade and this trade only...!

Everything's debatable (that's why this website was created ) Having said that, I'll bet the farm almost all of the CFL people (fans, media, players, team admin) in other cities would say we got fleeced.
