Or it may have been KJ getting in William's face about the rough play ejection in the 3rd quarter in the Winnipeg game. Pretty dumb for he (and Howard Howard) to be ejected at that juncture of a game. Luckily, the game was in hand by then.

EDMONTON - For the second time in four days, Julius Williams has found himself involved in a fist fight on the football field.

After getting ejected in last Friday’s game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for trading blows with an opposing offensive lineman, Williams was on the receiving end of a frustrated quarterback on his own team in practice Tuesday.

“It’s not my week, man,” Williams shrugged at reporters at Commonwealth Stadium following a practice in where he made contact with Kerry Joseph and wound up defending himself from the fed-up second-string quarterback.

“I think it was a misunderstanding,” Williams said, who is coming off a game disqualification along with fellow defensive end Marcus Howard. “I was coming off the ball. I was doing my job, going hard.”

A little too hard, it turns out.

“I was going to run into him, I tried my best to slow down,” said Williams. “I hit him a little bit, I tried to hold him up (from falling).”

Instead, Joseph’s fists fell down upon Williams. Repeatedly.

“He lost his cool, I was trying to tell him to calm down,” said Williams, who outweighs Joseph by 50 pounds. “But, I mean, it’s over now. We’re teammates. There’s no room for that here.”

Joseph, while more than willing to talk about the upcoming game in Vancouver on Friday (8 p.m., TSN, 630 CHED), remained tight-lipped over the conflict.

“If y’all don’t have questions about the B.C. Lions, then what’s going on and what happens with us and our teammates on the field stays between us,” said the 38-year-old veteran. “I’ve got no comments on that.

“We’re good. We’re teammates, we play football together.”

Steven Jyles didn’t mind explaining what goes through a quarterback’s mind when the defence takes liberties during practice.

Though it hasn’t happened to him in a while.

“When I was a third-string quarterback,” the Eskimos QB1 recalled. “But usually we try to talk to the guys about staying off of us because a guy can bump you or grab you or hit your arm and that upsets you a lot.

“I’ve been around at No. 3 with guys grabbing my arm and I’d get mad and be ready to fight because that’s something that can strain your arm.

“There is a code, because your backup quarterback is basically a starter. We have to protect those guys.”

But Jyles said he understands it can happen.

“You practise hard,” he said. “Our defence practises hard so some things happen. It’s just a matter of saying, ‘I’m sorry, my bad.’ And everything will be OK.”

Kavis Reed couldn’t be bothered by the altercation or the fact that Williams was involved.

“No. He’s not a trouble-maker,” the head coach said. “Those guys play football, it’s a spirited game. They’re fine.”

BRING DA NOISE: The Eskimos piped in a whole lot of crowd noise throughout Commonwealth Stadium Tuesday, attempting to simulate the listening environment inside BC Place Stadium they expect on Friday.

“It’s not as loud as it’s going to be in BC Place,” Joseph said. “But it helps us communicate better.”

The Eskimos can use any and all help they can get Friday, as they have yet to win in three previous visits to the facility since it was renovated last year.

“Every time we go to BC Place, noise is a factor,” Reed said.

IN AND OUT: LT Orrin Thompson (knee) saw limited participation Tuesday and is questionable for Friday’s game. DB Weldon Brown (groin) did not compete and is doubtful, along with LB Clint Kent (knee). WR Greg Carr (ankle) did not participate in drills, but is expected to dress Friday.
