    Declining Attendance... any reasons why?

so driving to work today, I heard on the radio Brian Hall commenting about how in the recent past it was easy for the Eskimos to have 50,000+ for attendance for this Labour Day Friday rematch.

he notices as i'm sure a lot of others notice that there's a difficult time getting even 40,000+ for games.

Montreal game got 32,500 for that game. The Riders game has 43,000+..

why is the attendance in Edmonton so low compared to the recent past? and I don't mean the late 70's early 80's where 60,000 was the norm. I mean 5-10 years ago where they were getting 40,000 for the least important home games.

This game is a shadow of its old self now. We finally had a game that we could bank on 50,000 - 60,000 and the Esks decided to stop including the vouchers. I remember sitting near the top of a packed Commonwealth in the pouring rain watching the year with Flutie and their slightly pink jerseys. This game started to develop some real cache and the Esks quashed it. Now we talk about hoping to get to 40,000. This president has done some nice things so hopefully he will look at that picture in their office of the 63,000 fans packing the joint a few years ago and put the vouchers back for the game they belong.

Yeah...we canceled our season tickets over that move. Will be going tonight for the first time all year because we always loved going to this game. That move didn't help things at all and this franchise has a lot of work to do. Metro Edmonton keeps getting bigger and the Esks attendance keeps going down. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out something isn't right.

We won for an unprecedented amount of time, that still didn't mean there wasn't an attendance decline in the mid-90's to the point of threats of selling the ball club.

Our attendance did not decline sharply during the years you stated. I think Eskimo fans realized that a short period of futility was long overdue and could stay loyal.

                  This is another matter.

                    I doubt we hit 40k.

                    35k might be more realistic.

Another factor in declining attendance overall that has to be factored in is this town has taken off big time as an "Oiler" town. Worst team in the league for years and we still pack the joint night after night.
