I am sure he will be gone BUT I want Kelly and he to work together and tweak the playbook. We saw when the Esks fired Worman and Strasser Mid season they could never get it back. Pay Kelly and Crandell let Crandell stay up in the Press box and Kelly call the game on the field.

Of course he is from the NCAA. This is all part of Tillman's master plan to implement the spread option offense. We will not challenge for Grey Cups. We will be middle of the pack, teasing glimpes of greatness, but when push comes to shove it's not going to work. Tillman should have really found his way into an AD role in the NCAA deep south. His football philosophy and tendancies work there, not in pro football.

The Edmonton Eskimos have hired David Kelly as the team's Offensive Advisor.

Kelly was a guest coach at training camp back in June and has 30 years coaching experience at the NCAA level.

He's coached NFL receivers Hines Ward, Terrell Owens, and former Eskimos receiver Kelly Campbell.

Why can't they just do the noble thing and fire Crandell, rather than make him go through the motions like this?

Pay out his contract and give him a plane ticket home... but I guess this way they can effectively fire him twice once the masses get agitated again. Save Kavis being a meat shield a little longer, further removing Tillman from accountability

He might actually learn something from a guy with 30 years experience .... normally a coach goes to the college team before getting a pro OC gig and he learns. This is something Crandell was not afforded.

This move also prevents the dreaded mid-season change while still making adjustments, albeit forced ones.

I have to agree with your premise that Crandell is getting the brown end of the stick on this one. This certainly could marginalize him in the eyes of his team and make him even less effective.

Seems he was fired last November and nailed for recruiting violations last summer. Apparently he can't do full recruiting work this year. Is this a short job until he's eligible to work NCAA again?

The spread option offense originated is perfect on the wide open field up here. Tillman isn't reinventing the wheel with wanting a mobile qb, he just hasn't brought in the right qb for that job.

What works in the CFL is a consistent running game and a consistent passing game. The spread option offense gives both, but it needs the correct guy at the controls. He has failed to get that so far.

Oh and if Kelly has been coaching for 30 years, I doubt he is a spread option kind of guy, thats a fairly new offense down south.

I agree with you that Tillman needs to find the QB to run his system. Question is, has Tillman shown the capability to find this type of QB in the past? Do you think they have this type of QB in the system right now? Because right now i say no to J and J.

I'm also not as confident as you are that the spread option offense is a natural fit for the Canadian game. I would prefer a more "traditional" offense. I admit this is a prejudice of mine. Tim Tebow is not coming to the Esks training camp next year.
