Surprise plays - why not more?

Has the team run any unexpected plays this year? Other than a few misdirections and a toss to a receiver off a running formation, I haven't seen too many.

With crummy QB's its sometimes necessary to do the unexpected.

There were more than a few times when it was 3rd and 3 or less that the punter could have run for a 1st down. I never even seen ours hesitate and think about it! When the defence peels off quickly and you only have a a yard or two to get the 1st down why not try it (provided you are on the 55 or so)?

Do a direct snap to the RB off a punt formation. It will work!

Fake a FG once in a while. I know they passed off of one but that was accidental but the results were great.

Even if unsuccessful, you make the other teams's defence tighten up and think.

Season is close to lost so I hope we see more creativity even if it is Crandell as OC.
If we were put on this earth to help others, what were the others put on earth for?

Teams that are winning shouldn't need to resort to gimmicks.

When you can't execute the basics, how do you expect to execute gimmicks?
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

Exactly. When your guys can't run a simple play without missing the target, how the hell are they going to pull off something that is out of the ordinary? As it is I'm afraid every time Jyles is on the field that we're going to go negative yardage....

They actually ran the end around with Stamps in the 1st half that actually gained positive yardage! And they are not necessarily "gimmick plays" but rather tendency-breakers that keep the opposition off balance, but I doubt that Crandell can even spell creative let alone be it......

The great thing about a gimmick on a fake FG is that Jyles wouldn't be the QB, therefore it actually has a better chance of working than a standard play.

Start Nicholls. That would surprise the hell out of me.

Yes. I remember a few long passes directed upfield.

I didn't mean to run weird plays. Just something to keep the defence off balance. They were doing that in the 1st half which surprised the heck out of me, but then reverted back to the old conservative predictable offense.

A direct snap would be a tendency breaker. A fake punt in a a good field postilion would be nice once in a while if you see the defence peeling back fast.

Yes I know with our QB and OC that's asking a lot but I can dream.

Yeah, in that game against Calgary two weeks ago, Nichols was holding the ball and passed for a touchdown during the FG attempt. Granted, it wasn't meant to be a trick play, but it put a green checkmark in my book next to Matt Nichols. Notwithstanding that was an awesome way to end the half.

                          EXACTLY

When your supposed starting QB can't make a 10 yard throw to a wide open receiver more than 50% of the time, you don't complicate it further by using imagination.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

A direct snap to a RB (Wildcat?) doesn't depend much on the QB. Also a fake punt can be handled by a heady punter. An onside kick to start off the game would be surprise too. A pooch kickoff will also throw off the opposition. When you are in a prolonged losing streak, you got to try some unexpected things.

I haven't seen any of these plays yet though there was hope last Saturday.

They were great in the 1st half with fake handoffs and misdirection plays. Can't fathom why they went away from it. Idiots!

They can't even get the right kicker on the field at times. You think they can pull off a trick play?
