what exactly was the difference between Rwakamba's first PI in the EZ, and Brandon Smith's play at the end o the game?

I'm wondering if anyone can enlighten me?

They were wearing different uniforms.

Smith was screening the receiver but used his left hand to bat down the ball. It could easily have been a PI call for screening, that's how the rule reads. In this case, screening is more difficult to call because the route was cut short and the ball a bit underthrown.

#15 used his right hand on the shoulder and they usually call that.

See, the thing that confused me was both defenders put an arm on the receiver early, both turned their head to the ball, both knocked the ball away...

...so...it was the flag that was key?

Yeah see, I thought that too...but Smith also had his right Hand on Stamps, and Rwakamba's batted the ball with his left hand as well...

No matter what is was, officiating was (as usual) just awful.

I would say that Rwakamba's infraction was definitely a penalty and Smith's was definitely borderline. I think the real difference was that (under so much heat again) Reilly underthrew it a little bit and that means a scramble by both guys coming back for the ball and in a case like that it is harder to call--but Smith definitely used his body to screen Stamp's view, something that D-backs do all the time.

Well, the old expression about losing teams finding a way to lose applies here. Regardless, we did not deserve to be in the game come the 4th quarter.

Yeah, we shoulda laid down and died after the 3rd.

I hate it when teams keep playing and make refs decide games in the 4th. Especially when no one cares if they do it in the 1st.

That was brutal officiating!
It starts with a PI in the endzone on us. I immediately thought, "ok its gonna be one of those games where the officials call everything". 7-0 Calgary. Then we have the ball and Reilly gets intercepted on a push and tug on Coehoorn. 17-0 Calgary. Then the pick play which there was no flag and Calgary got another TD. So I must come to the conclusion that the officials are calling everything on us and nothing on Calgary. Sorry but they get a free 21 points from the officials you can't tell me they aren't getting paid off or something. Its like they came in and said Calgary is going to win today so lets make sure they do.
Officiating is what makes the CFL so bush league. I love the CFL but when I see the crap officiating I just wanna shut off the tv.

Do you really think the refs decided this one? What are the odds of winning when you are down 37-7 and the opposition is almost scoring at will. We just don't have enough good horses in the barn. If we did we wouldn't be 1-8.

I dunno, what are the odds of coming back and scoring 27 points in 6 minutes?

Seems to me we also had a full minute to get into FG range and take the game to OT...

Oh, BTW....see the post by Pless fan...I guess I that stuff happens in the 1st half no one should care, and then everyone should go home, cause the odds are against them coming back.

Yes, we did have a full minute to get into FG range and take the game to OT--but we had the same chance in 4 other games and couldn't get it done.

Bad refs/luck can turn a 6-3 record into 3-6 but when it gets to a 1-8 record you have to be honest about what we have on the field. As badly as I wanted them to win, even on that last drive I didn't get the feeling that they were going to.

Yeah I have to disagree with you on this one. The D played their best game of the year and by no means were being outplayed the way the score might have indicated. It honestly came down to a handful of absolute horse s*** bad calls that put us in the hole early.

I agree with others in this thread. I hate getting on the officials after a loss, but for reasons I can't begin to understand they certainly seemed to have made a conscious decision to make this game tough on the Esks from the get go.

When you put Tom Higgins in charge of something......... but of course the refereeing was brutal during the EE dynasty years as well.

Anyway, time for bed, I'm too soft to spar with you guys all night.
