You can hit a guy plenty hard and not torpedo yourself like that, and the tackle would be FAR more effective and not recklessly endanger yourself or the other other guy needlessly. Curran has played pretty well, but that play was selfish, foolish and needless... tackle like that, and before long "crush him" will be the last thought you ever have.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Yes the James Bell hit on Jan Carinci should be required viewing at defensive meetings. You lead with your head not your shoulder you are putting your own life and well being at risk.

Run the Ball up the gut around the horn it does not matter. We run we win what is so difficult to understand.

        Exactly.

To a certain point, you cannot avoid the helmet being involved cause the head is attached to the shoulders/chest and protrudes, but there is a world of difference between incidental contact and leading expressly with the crown of your helmet, as Curran did.

I've never seen the Bell incident. Was it the result of leading with his head?

Y'know, I never thought Lou DesLaurier was ever the same after that. He only played the one year after, but before that play the guy was a wrecking ball at safety.

Maybe he thought himself partly responsible, I wouldn't know....

Natural instinct might be to lay out a crushing hit.

But, to me, the best players are those that can consistently deliver on the high percentage, high efficiency play as often as possible.
