    Week 2 - Momentum

Week 2 and we're pacing with the div leaders. Ticats coming off a bare butt spanking where their oilne got abused (anyone missing Wojt still?) and battered. They'll be cranky but they have a lot of preparation to do after watching our film, which is a big change already from last year as I really don't believe teams had to do do much in the way of extra prep beyond their own game plans. Already the cats will have to spend time on ST's that takes away from time on their own game, along with extra time on their Oline protection issues with another very stiff front 7 to face in a CJ defence.

We have a lot of work to do on our own right in order to develop cohesiveness and consistency, but it's always easier to do so coming off a win than to have to start digging your way out of a hole. I expect a good effort and a different mindset at home compared to what's been seen 'round these parts.
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

      Hope your right

I think the cats won't be that bad again! But they sure looked it last night!!

Fingers and everything crossed we can build on week 1 as good as a win as it was, if we can't win at home and build a cornerstone/foundation to hang our hat.. Were still gonna be on the outside looking in..

Most good ( sorry consistent ) teams look at their sched and think well we got 7 wins at home min each year
I used to feel that way about us years ago.

Would love to return to it..

Was at the Cabin, so instead of a write up from what I enjoyed about last game I'm just going to key on things I noticed and hope to continue to see into this game...

        - First and foremost, and I don't see this changing, was the organized chaos the D brought. Reminded me of watching a Rex Ryan D where guys would be all over the LOS and it's seemingly random trying to guess who is going to drop into coverage and who the blitzer is. Love it. Just a nightmare for other O's, and not only will this help our DL; but this is also something that opposing coaches, QB's and to a lesser extent C's will have to try and figure out throughout the season. What a welcome change from soft lazy zones.

        - Of course, having Grymes and Watkins out there makes this a lot easier. Both had monster games by my eye and with two DB's like that it takes a ton of stress off of the entire receiving core. I expect similar against a weak Hamilton receiving core.

        - The DL was absolutely dominant, and seeing Steele step in and make a difference was great. After the mess that Hamilton's OL was yesterday, I expect a similar 5+ sack performance.

        - Offensively I really liked the play calling in terms of lots of short, easy throws being used to set up the TD bombs to Stamps and Bowman. Creative offensive play calling was nice to see. What I didn't like was the lack of a running game throughout, Thomas had a few nice runs, but we need to have him carrying the mail more before the fourth quarter. The Sask OL gets away with murder most plays, but given the way Allen ripped Hamilton a new one, I'd be disappointed if we saw less than 15 hand offs in the first three quarters.

        Can't wait for Friday.
"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

A good offense keeps the defense on their heels. I would like to see our game plans switch from week to week with different guys stepping up each time, last game it was Bowman, maybe next will be Thomas.

It's difficult right now to see where we are until we start to see results against a few other teams as well.

I realize how "duh" obvious that sounds, but until the rubber hits the road we're only left with "perceptions" of how strong each team is. Did we overestimate the strength of BC? Was the Sask/Ti-Cat result a result of Collaros and their OLine being whupped, or over-rated?

Plenty of likewise questions around the League too, especially in regards to Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal. It's going to take a few games to see how teams are really changed this year. That includes us.

While everyone is still trying to figure us out, lets lay the wood down on a few teams early as best we can. A strong start out of the gate is just what the doctor ordered for this group to really start to come together

Yup. I believe that while I sit in Commonwealth sipping beer I will, for the first time in many years, actually be entertained by the game on the field rather than just the drunk girls in the stands.

One thing that cannot be denied, we will hit you...hard.

If we keep laying the stick to teams like that, word will get around. Softer teams will wilt under that.

1st step towards regaining our Commonwealth mystic, that had other teams searching for excuses as to why they couldn't win here.

                      Re: Week 2 - Momentum

The next three games are winnable, so this would be an opportune time to bank some wins... Hamilton is in disarray, Ottawa is obviously an expansion team, and Winnipeg is kinda a wildcard... so if you can win at least 2 out of those 3, you're 3-1 heading into the game against Calgary.

And if week one was any indication, you're not going to want to be giving up any results against East opponents if you want to make the playoffs in the West
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

                        Agreed.

Many said this was a real soft spot of the schedule, and that we would have a good chance to get out of the gate early. Though they figured game one against the Lions would be a loss (myself included). Things may have changed though watching the Bombers dismantle Toronto, and Ottawa is still unknown. Was that also the same Cats who went to the GC last year?

We need to build off of this win. Prove it wasn't a fluke, and do everything to Hamilton that the Riders did. Hang with the top of the west, then we will see how we fare against Calgary.

                          Yes.

I'd also like to see us wrap up, though. Hits won't matter if guys like Harris or Cornish or whoever just bounce off.

Sherritt back in the lineup this week, so that's a plus for tackling and run defence. Curren wasn't practicing according to Morley on Eskimos show, but no insight as to whether it was maintenance day or more. He was playing right until the end in BC.

We can't afford to under-estimate Hamilton and some of the weapons they have, including Gable, despite a piss-poor opener. That said, I think we're catching the Ticats at just the right time - 1) coming off a butt-kicking in a wild weather game, 2) short week (Sunday/Friday) to be making big adjustments, 3) Extended road trip (staying in Regina), and 4) Young QB early in his learning curve. I do think that this Ticat team will get better as the season wears on and perhaps quite quickly.

This certainly seems like a great opportunity to continue establishing the aggressive identity of this ball club, and making opponents understand what they'll be facing when they come to CW.

Would have been better for us if they had been involved in an energy sapping close game..
