Where has all the offense gone?

Seeing as it's been two straight weeks, let's discuss it.

What in the world has happened to our offense? Brutal showing in Hamilton last week, and very unimpressive this week against a team that we should have lit up all game long.

Is it playcalling? Is it Reilly not being 100%? Is it a crazy combination of both?

Whatever it is, it needs to get sorted out in a big way. There's not a chance of us doing well in the playoffs - let alone the Grey Cup - if the offense doesn't undergo some kind of significant improvement.
Keep an open mind, and you never know who might walk in...

its the same offense we've complained about for yeard and years - even during the Ray days and thru numerous OCs....In short I have no ****ing clue whats up with it.. Perhaps the loss of Blanco and the Oline are the reason.. i have no friggin clue

I think the 2nd half was much better, the almost 5 min drive in the 3rd Q with Reilly completing 5 passes marching from the Edmonton 42 and setting up a Jordan "Slash" Lynch TD was impressive. The short drive ending with the Walker 21 yard super twisting catch for a TD, was a WOW moment!

Having typed that, I think the Offense was designed to limit against the Esks biggest weakness, their Offensive Line. Even now that the Line has been rebuilt and is still jelling it is too late in the season to totally revamp the offensive scheme, some wrinkles can be introduced, but that is it. We are going to have to live with this Offense, good or bad going forward into the playoffs. The Offense will never blow out the other team, but in coming bad weather in late fall it can manage the game enough to win. The Hamilton game proved that.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.

Its weird how everyone hounded Nichols and made it sounds like he didn't even belong in the CFL, is putting up some nice numbers in Bombertown.

All starts up front.... Oline needs a good chunk of games together

Chemistry on your oline is what wins you grey cups...

Reilly is pretty much in pre-season mode right now going up against defenses that have had 14 weeks to work out the kinks, unfortunately it may take a couple weeks for him to get up to speed.

Up until two weeks ago, he hasn't played a full game since Nov 1, 2014. Hoping that's the main issue right now.

They did drop 29 points yesterday.

                First lets state:

                - This OL has been a revolving door all season
                - John White was a massive loss
                - Reilly has barely played
                - The team has not had a bye week where coaches could spend more time self evaluating versus game planning

                Then let's consider:

                - Despite all the problems, this team is 3rd in points for.
                - This team has several Canadian receivers to open up spots for Americans on the back end

                And finally, let's remember:

                - Bowman, Waller and Stafford are big bodies. The best way to utilize guys like these is jump balls where they can go up and over a smaller DB. These are lower percentage plays but when they work you're getting 50 yard chunks.

It's far from a perfect offense, but I think everyone is worrying far too much.

That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

One of the better post here. We got to many fickle people running around manically reacting to everything.

                  Calm down.

Agreed on all counts, and full credit to Reilly and company for gutting out the win. But at the same time, B.C. is dead last in most defensive categories. There's no way we should have been limited to just two first downs in the first half.

And yes, it's great that we've been able to come back two weeks in a row. These were games that we would have certainly lost a couple of years ago. But sooner or later, our inability to put together a consistent 60-minute effort is going to come back to haunt us. I certainly hope the offense does better next week against the Bombers than what it did in the previous two games.

I'd rather have a sh**ty offensive performance and a "W" than a stellar offensive performance and an "L". Here's hoping for a 3 game winning streak to end the season...

No one ever plays well for 4 qtrs....
If we're gonna play poorly early then we have to try to stay error free so that when we do wake up we ain't to far behind..

As I said in the past, I don't dislike Nichols and he has some very good tools. However, he didn't fit in the Eskimos Offensive scheme as a pocket passer, where a Mobile QB who moves the launch point does.

Good on the Esks and Matt Nichols for getting in the right situation for Matty to flourish. My hope for Nichols is that once Willy comes back, that he resigns with a team that will give him a legit shot to be a #1 and that he is able to turn some heads.

100% Agreed, it takes time ... it's about knowing and trusting what the guy beside is going to do, but I am confident this group can get it together .... the Winnipeg game is #3 as a unit and let's hope we see some unity in blocking and added protection time for Reilly to go down field ... If Reilly has the time to take 3 to 5 shots to Walker, Stafford and K Law then they are ready to take on the Stamps on Oct 10th.

I think that it's a little early to hit the panic button on the offense. Mike is gonna need some time to get back up to game speed and luckily for us he has another 5 games to improve with more key pieces returning each week before playoffs. Chambers for Bailey will be another upgrade as he's been caught looking real lazy on a more than a couple of occasions recently.

I don't know what's up with Reilly but the long ball wasn't working. He seemed like he couldn't throw it far enough. Receivers were always slowing up to wait for the ball allowing the defender to close. We won a few jump balls but they need to be Rayed in there over the top.
