After chatting with YO M1CK just now, I figured I'd cast a line to see if anyone out there used to record Esks games on VHS back in the day? I was hoping to find a bunch of games I'm missing for the collection and you never know what's out there.

There are a bunch of old games on YouTube, but those ones I've already got, so figured I'd see if anyone might have a box of old tapes in their garage or basement somewhere - I can convert them over, and make sure you get a copy on DVD, as well as tossing in a bunch of classic games to enjoy if you're so inclined.

To piggyback Parkies request. The historical significance of these games is VERY valued. The CFL and its rich history, for many of us, defined our youth. The Edmonton CFL football history is wealthy and needs to be celebrated, especially when there are recorded broadcasted games that exist that may be simply collecting dust somewhere.

If any of these gems are discovered, please, by all means, jump on the site and let us know. We will gladly and easily make sure they will be properly cared for and enjoyed again.

I'm not sure they have many/any of the original broadcast games. When I was there in 2012, most of what they seemed to have was old coaches' films on 16mm; perhaps they had more elsewhere, but if so I haven't seen it. CTV destroyed all their old backup copies of games after they stopped doing games in the mid-80s, and many of them were recorded over with the Littlest Hobo or whatever else was popular at the time. Tape wasn't cheap, I guess, nor was storage and maintenance.

Every EE game in 1981 and 1982 (and possibly earlier) were broadcast, for example; the absolute prime of football in Edmonton, and most of those games are lost to the ether, sadly. Thankfully all of the Grey Cup games are out there now, but what about the rest? Maybe the National Archives got lucky...?

Boydo probably has some that he starred in mind you I think those are on 8 mm film

I've got 9 or 10 boxes of VHS taped games dating from 1989 to 2001 ish taking up space that I need to get rid of. Do they meet any of your needs? They are in Edmonton. Thnx.

That would be fantastic; yes - most of the holes in my collection are actually from the 1990s, so odds are good that would fill a ton of the holes. Let me know how I could get them, and then where to send the DVDs if you're interested in the converted games to watch on a more modern set up haha

If you have a lead on broadcast footage from the 1950s and 60s (other than the Grey Cup games), by all means, let me know! My "want list" starts in 1980 since before that, VCRs were pretty rare, so you don't often see much footage floating around.

Regular season Edmonton games from the 1970s are significant as well, given the team owned the decade with its successes. Two of the 5 in a row dynasty Grey Cup wins began in 1978. Before that, appearances in the 1973 Grey Cup, 1974 Grey Cup, a win in the 1975 Grey Cup, and an appearance in the 1977 Grey Cup (a.k.a. The Ice Bowl or Staple Game) happened. These Grey Cup wins and appearances are commonplace and easy to find amongst those of us who collect games as a hobby. Regular season games and the playoff games leading up to the Grey Cups in the 1970s are in need of finding, and enjoying again.
