    Re: 1991 LD rematch

I think there was a 66-3 game vs Ottawa back in the early 90's as well.
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

I remember that. One of the ugliest games ever seen. We could have fielded tackles to run deep routes all day and they'd still pile up touchdowns.

A friend at the time, ex Esk Dan Murphy who played for Ottawa in that game, invited a bunch of friends to join him for diner after the game and as we were all chowing down and tipping a few back, the game hi-lites come on the TV in the lounge and Dan pipes up, " But Mom, I really LIKE football...." Had us all laughing

Classic!! I couldn't imagine what it would have been like to be him on that day. I suppose you'd need a sense of humour like that and a good keg of beer after getting it handed to you so badly. That's like the Category five of hurricanes: it only happens rarely, but when it does happen, it's ugly.

I remember this one as well. The scoring came in bunches on that snowy day, despite the slipping and sliding. Great crowd then, too. I had seats in lower section G; beer in one hand and a hot toddie in the other! I almost felt sorry for the Peggers that day... ALMOST.

It was pretty brutal, alright. Nothing seemed to work. I half thought he'd break out the Gene Simmons platformed-teeth boots to see if it would work. Then again, the Bombers could have had the angel Gabriel playing for them that day and they would still have lost.

                        Re: 1991 LD rematch

*** joining this game in progress...

… Mike Walker sacks Calgary’s Steve Taylor. Bennie Goods providing pressure as well. Clock say about a minute to go in the half.

2nd Down Stamps. Andy McVey wrapped up by Mike Walker and Larry Wruck. Bass there to make sure he didn’t get away.

3rd… EE punt team comes on. Who’s that guy with short hair wearing #43 with the name Roberts on the back?

Matich punts, ball bounces… Stamps are downfield quickly… (cut to announcer)…

“Henry Williams begins at the 40… somehow he got through! He’s taken one back already… no flags… The Gizmo does it again!”

70yd td return that had me laughing out loud at the TV… what a thing of beauty. And this time Giz walked to the back of the endzone and bowed! Then handed the ball to a kid.

Macoritti kicks the convert. 31-6 Edmonton.

Camera follows Giz along the bench… you see Warren Jones, Marco Cyncar, Craig Ellis, Mike Dumaresq, Randy Ambrosie, Enis Jackson, Mike McLean, Doug Parrish, David Shelton, Reggie Taylor and Coach Ron Lancaster.

Stat comes up – oh how spoiled we’ve become with TV graphics! – Gizmo, 3 punt returns for 130yds and 2 TDs.

Esks kick off. Ron Hopkins returning for the Stamps and dropped… by Jed Roberts.

                        QB stats
                        Cal 4/14, 47 yds, 2 int, 0 td
                        Edm 9/19, 111 yds, 0 int, 0 td

EE TDs from Giz (2) and Blake Marshall (2)

                        2nd half.

Stamps receiving. PeeWee Smith returns the kick off for a TD! 31-13

EE offense on field… Tracy Ham at QB. Both of Marshall’s TDs were set up by Ham’s running.

Marshall catches the ball coming out of the backfield, plows over people. (note to self… send this tape to the Esks… the blocking on that play was exquisite!)

Esk Offense bogs down and oh oh… Ham is injured… hamstring or knee.

                        EE forced to Punt.

Sapunjis fields the punt and returns it for a TD.
                        E31-C20

Lancaster shown on bench going ballistic. Enis Jackson took an un-necessary penalty (ah, I do remember those! )

Also on bench are Jim Sandusky, David Williams, Leroy Blugh and Connop

Ham leaves the game on a cart with a knee inj.

                        Warren Jones in ( ).

Blake Marshall goes down. Second injury of an Esk involving Alondra Johnson… hmmm better rewind and take another look… interesting… in both cases one guy is holding the players’ leg and as AJ comes over the top the other player twists.

Warren Jones complete to a diving Jordan Gaertner for 34 yards.

1st carry for Michael Soles (can you believe the depth?!?) good for 13 yards.

Jones steps back into the pocket… an utterly perfect pocket, by the way… and throws a strike to David Williams, 13 yd TD!

                        E38-C20

Hopkins takes the kick off… has a head of steam… and where’d he go? Michael Soles turned him into worm food!

Cal on offense… Taylor looking for Allen Pitts who’s up against rookie Trent Brown… score one for the rookie!

Looks like the Esks have stopped them… but wait… Enis the P**** with the PI on Sean Beals.

                        Cal settles for a FG.

                        E 38-C23

Edm offense does nothing. Cal back on O.

Taylor scrambles and is forced out by Brett ‘The Toaster’ Williams.

2nd down… here comes the rush! Pless, Blugh and Wruck all come flying in! Taylor throws the ball away. Keyvan Jenkins was conveniently close enough!

Giz takes the punt, no hesitation barrels up the middle. Looks like he got nothing… but the return was still a dozen yards!

Warren Jones fumbles, the stamps score a TD… but that would be it for points for them.

The Esks at that point had 13 penalties for 137 yards! Ouch.
Even so, they piled on another 14 points and eventually - as Parkies pointed out – they won 51-37.

A sweet retribution for losing the LD game. But alas, that season the Stamps would have the last laugh and win the West final… only to be beaten by the Argos in the GC.

There’s a trip down memory lane for you! There are a lot of great games and highlight packages, but I thought it was cool to find a chunk of a game like that… mid-season… from 15 years ago.

We now return you to regularly scheduled programming.

Those moments were things of sheer beauty. Wilkie, myself and a crazy scottsman named Spookee would do the "We're not worthy" bows when ever Blake would start rumblin'-stumblin'-bumblin' usually carrying a tackler or two and giving defensive backs instant incontenance whenever he would hit the secondary looking to hit THEM! *sniff sniff* sorry just a bit verklemft...
