Were is the running game ?!

At the start of last season the biggest problem that the esks had was a lack of a consistant running game. They went out and traded Maas for Davis, I know there were seperate trades but everyone knows that was the deal. Davis is a 1000 yard rusher on a really bad team, and it was the bext move that Esks made last year (Montford could rate higher).

This year Troy Davis in 3 games has a grand total of 95 yards on only 23 attempts. Those stats are games for most of the good backs in the league and those are his season stats!!!!

The esks are falling into the same trap as they did last year, throw for 350+ yards but do not run the ball. It cost them a home playoff date last year, and when people realized that they do not run the ball Ray did not throw a TD pass for something like 9 games. I can guarentee that teams will start to do what they last year to defense Ray very fast and Esks could be on the outside looking in when the playoffs come and not just having to go the road again.

      I agree.

I find the whole thing baffling. I think Beerfish listed the Esks' offensive production over the last nine regular season games and it averaged out at 17 points. That puts far too much pressure on the defence.

The Bombers scored more points on us this weekend than we have scored, combined, in three games this season!

Football strategy is about keeping the defence off-balance, so that they can't guess what you're doing and put their resources out there to stop you. Opponents have shown eminently that they know how to stop this predictable offence. Whoever's baby this is (Coach C?), it's been proven to fail. It's way, way past time to re-introduce the rushing game and keep the D on their toes.
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

Our run blocking has been attrocious so far, I've never liked Carson in this regard as he seems weak at opening holes. Pat is still a little wet behind the ears in this regard as well, that leaves a lot to be desired from running off the right side.

The only way to improve though is to stick with it, perhaps now that we have cut Rodney Williams that leaves an opening for Roundtree to see some time at right guard, I was very impressed with what I saw of him through camp and preseason both on the rush and pass side....

Couple of things on the lack of runnig game:

                  1) Play calling has ben ****... thank you DM and RCL!!
                  2) O-line is still new and struggling, they can't fire off the ball and "get some' with offensive oriented blocks. Mental or physical... it's just not there.
                  3) Davis... if he stutter steps once more... break his leg, call him lame, and SHOOT HIM!!! His past sucess as a ti-cat has been to run North/South hell bent for leather. With a green o-line he HAS TO hit the holes with speed and power (aka Roberts and Reynolds could give him lessons I'm sure!!).

Other than that.... your guess is as good as mine.... in fact, it'sprobably better!!!!

Re: Were is the running game ?!

Start the run early and stick with it. Give your back enough carries so that you actually establish a run game, and keep the opposing team's defense honest.

Another problem we've seen this year (much like last year) was our teams inability to finish off drives. This is partially because we never establish a run game. Last year Troy Davis was MONEY in the red zone when he played in Hamilton. All I see out of the Eskies in the Red Zone this year is pass, pass, pass. We've got one of the best RB's in the league, and we need to start using him!

400 yards through the air doesn't mean sh!t if you don't score td's. We need to start running the ball!
                    Our balls are bigger, eh.

With all the outsiders flocking to Alberta for jobs, this guy may not be one of us. Lord, I hope he isn't.
