Have to say, I'm still p.o'ed over what I saw on friday on many levels. I've pretty much stayed away from here for a few days while at the races because I needed to not think about that game for a while. Time to break some thoughts down:
Reggie Durden - Weakest link in the secondary, proven by the fact we had to move him out of position and he still get's beat and is forced to take penalties. I'd like to see what Roosevelt Williams can do as he is a much larger DB and matches up better size wise than the receivers Durden has been matched up against. I'm also not a fan of how RD has had to be restrained by his teammates on occasion for excessive yapping when IMO he should be picking up his jock off the turf and focusing on making plays.
Our strong side blitz was getting ZERO pressure to the QB. Weather it was the half back or Winn, they got no penetration to Glenn and in turn gave the bombers the nice vacated hole in the secondary that the bombers threw to on the hot route several times for good gains. Found myself very frustrated at the overal lack of pressure on Glenn and there was no excuse for that.
Why did it take us until mid way thru the third quarter to discover Troy Davis?
Tucker shovel pass on the 1 yd line made little sense to me. We seem to make the error of trying to out think our opponents on offence rather than trying to outplay them. We force Swerve to try and jitterbug around defenders on hitch passes instead of turning him loose, we shovel to Tucker in the box rather than lining him up against the secondary and play to his strength of beating guys and out leaping defenders. IMO if you are going to run that shovel play, Woodcock is better suited as a speedster with a lower center of gravity who can get to the corner.
The receiving core did not do a good enough job in coming back to the football to give Ray a target when he was getting flushed out with pressure. Too many times I didn't see receivers looking back to see that the play called was a bust. Also too many lapses of concentration with easy balls being dropped ( Swerve, Woodcock) Get well soon Mookie. Also did anyone tell RR that Nowacki was playing? If they had he might have seen him open a time or two.
We average 7.4 points in first half's this season???????? WTF??????? Danny, you ball control offence works much better when we have a lead, as it sucks arse to start the game. We seem to gain little to no momentum in the first half of any game and it's not until half time do we make changes.
Dline needs to seriously step up it's game. While the front 7 did a nice job taking Chuck Bob out of the game by the second half, Glenn's jersey was way to clean by the end of the game.
Oline probably had it's poorest game of the year, but they were up against the best Dline. Still a work in progress here but they will continue to get better.
Discipline issues still costing us but I couldn't believe the overal ineptetude of the officiating. Anyone else notice the missed no yards call against the bombers when TNT took a knee in the first half???? WTF? Bad PI call on Durden, some bad cals on the bombers as well. Just a sloppy, poorly called game by the zebras altogether.
Under the file: Bear Droppings. How incredibly stupid was our bear mascot when for several moments he was using the D - Fence signs when OUR FRIGGEN OFFENCE WAS ON THE FIELD DEEP IN OUR END!?!?!?! He had to be told by a fan that we had the ball. MORON!
Last play - Why they didn't take a timeout when it sure looked like there was a lot of confusion both on the field and the sidelines was beyond me. Frank should have focused on making the tackle instead of playing the ball. Brutal, brutal effort all around and inexcuseable.
This team looks disjointed on both sides of the ball right now. Too many mental errors and a little too much "me" instead of "we" meaning players trying to make individual efforts rather than focusing on playing well as a team.
All that said we are still one game out of first and have time to get the ship sailing in the right direction.

. I was thinking bootleg and/or QB option every time we were inside the 5...yet we never run it. Every other team does, and it tends to work
...take some notes, there, coaches.
