Whereas you've traded away your best player, one of the 5 best left wingers in hockey, for whatever reason, and your remaining players are sadly mediocre underacheivers, even the best ones, and your coaching is mediocre, and you keep trading for loads of picks and propects, and you have no farm team to put them on, and your building is old and rickety and you've made no real movement for a new one any time soon, and while you had a nice Cinderella run (that's what is was) you've finished between 10th and 7th for a generation.....just what the hell is the plan?

Re: A BIG Question For The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club
complete overhaul ?
I'm sick an tired of people saying MacT can only coach what he is given. Stop sticking up for him.. he's a medicore Coach - whos strengths lie in the defensive aspect of the game... we need a coach who has some offensive knowledge.... Its time for a change.. As a coach its his job to coach the team.. its becoming painfully obvious he cant coach offensive minded people...

Re: A BIG Question For The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club
It's not just the mediocre coaching and players. The franchise itself is not in good shape, no matter how they spin it.
They have no farm team and therefore CANNOT develop stars, especially scorers and goalies.
They have a building that doesn't seat enough and doesn't generate enough revenue to keep up with the salary cap. This with some of the highest prices in the NHL.
They have made no moves whatsoever regarding a new building. IF they made an announcement today it wouldn't open for 24-36 months. So it looks like it's Rexall for the next 5 years at least. All the while salaries go up and affordability for the Oilers goes down.

Re: A BIG Question For The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club
The Oilers will pick up some RFA this off season, they may not end up with any 1st rounders at the end of the day. Now the problem is that they are really bad right now, they will add a few pretty good players and probably have to overpay to get them and they will be a middle of the road team next year.

They still have around 7 years left on their contract with Northlands anyways so a new arena won't be coming anytime soon regardless.Originally posted by DeathsdoorstepThey have made no moves whatsoever regarding a new building. That is NOT good news. I wonder how far behond we'll be at that point? But hey, we'll get nice high annual draft picks, huh? I wonder where we'll put the players we draft.Originally posted by DeloreanThey still have around 7 years left on their contract with Northlands anyways so a new arena won't be coming anytime soon regardless.

this pisses me off more than MacT
they traded their scorer ( only scorer ) and been shut out since his departure.. its pretty damn clear they cant score

Re: A BIG Question For The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club
Yeah, I haven't heard much about a farm team other than they've held some preliminary talks with a few cities, but nothing has come of it so far. It looks like we're going to continue spreading out our prospects all over the continent for awhileOriginally posted by DeathsdoorstepThat is NOT good news. It wasn't a Cinderella run, the Oilers had a good team. In fact, they had a good team the season before as well.Originally posted by DeathsdoorstepWhereas you've traded away your best player, one of the 5 best left wingers in hockey, for whatever reason, and your remaining players are sadly mediocre underacheivers, even the best ones, and your coaching is mediocre, and you keep trading for loads of picks and propects, and you have no farm team to put them on, and your building is old and rickety and you've made no real movement for a new one any time soon, and while you had a nice Cinderella run (that's what is was) you've finished between 10th and 7th for a generation.....just what the hell is the plan?
This year they have an awful team and they should have made moves for players early in the year.Placing the Alberta Flag on the Calgary Flames uniform is akin to putting lipstick on a Pig

Re: A BIG Question For The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club
It would take three to four years to build one. Another couple to plan it. This is about the right time to start planning.Originally posted by DeloreanThey still have around 7 years left on their contract with Northlands anyways so a new arena won't be coming anytime soon regardless.
Go back eight or nine years and we had one of he newest buildings.Placing the Alberta Flag on the Calgary Flames uniform is akin to putting lipstick on a Pig
