Re: Penner to be given RFA offer: Team 1260
Compensation on that is a 1st, 2nd and 3rd?
Stupid stupid stupid.
Not in this draft. Penner isn't making this team anything, and with how high our pick could be it's just not worth it. I like Penner, but... damnit.
Lowe's off grasping again.."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Ugh.
I like Penner and all, but I just don't think he's the type of player that can push this team over the edge into being anywhere near a contender next year at all.
He's not great with the puck either. Great along the boards, and a nice shot... but he's a RW too.
Argh. This just reeks of desperation."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. But then you think Horcoff is a talent, so forgive me if I take your assessment with a grain of salt.Originally posted by PDO View PostUgh.

It doesn’t matter, MacT’s system can turn a 30 goal scorer into a 15 goal scorer, until we take the handcuffs off of our skill players it won’t matter who we bring in.

How many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round players in any given draft ever amount to a 29 goal sophomore season? Id venture a guess that one does. The compensation to me is not a concern in the salary range he was offered.Originally posted by PDO View PostCompensation on that is a 1st, 2nd and 3rd?

Not many, but the '08 draft is looking historic, and right now the Oilers look like they'll be in the top 10 in the draft.Originally posted by lloyd View PostHow many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round players in any given draft ever amount to a 29 goal sophomore season? With Penner?
Maybe the top 15 instead.
Like I said; I like Penner, and I don't even mind the dollars... it's the dollars + the compensation that is looking pretty painful right now."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. Yup. Penner would be a nice fit on the second line. Granted, there's a possibility of this really backfiring on K-Lo but I appreciate that he's trying to be proactive.Originally posted by Deathsdoorstep View PostRight now, the Oilers' #2 RW on the depth chart is Fernando Pisani. I'd rather have Penner on the second line, wouldn't you?

I really like this deal. If the Oil get him, he gives us what we desperately have needed for a long, long time. A big, strong forward that can score. He isn't a powdre puff like Lupul, this guy is physical and he has hands. I don't see how you can think this is bad.Ugh.

We still have extra draft picks in this coming draft, we are loaded with prospects and the draft is always a crap shoot. If you can get a young, proven, GOOD NHL player over drafting a guy that could very well be a never will be, I will take the proven player any day.
This to me also shows that Klowe is doing whatever it takes to change the bad stigma that the organization has. It shows that the Oil are serious about their hockey team, serious about winning and serious about being real players in the NHL. He is creating a core of good, young NHL players to build a championship team around.
This is a great move.Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.
