    Keys to beating the Flamers today................

    ..............................put as many shots at the 30th place goaltender as possible. The three year NHL wonder has finally returned to his original form, a less than average goalie. Now the Flamers score more, and thus they no longer ride the wonder boy (not including the after-hours). Go figure, Conklin is a star and Kipper is a fallen star.

    I also asked Stortini at the autograph session yesterday, if he would punch out Phagoof.

      -Keep puck deep and cycle. The Flames D (and forwards to an extent) get themselves out of position far too much. I'd like to see Penner finally have that star game vs. the Flames.
      -Stay out of the penalty box. That Flames PP is dangerous.
      -Hit the **** outta them and get those Oiler fans riled up. I don't want to hear a single Go Flames Go chant tonight.

        Kipprusoff has been playing much better since the CBJ OT loss on CBC. His AHL numbers indicate he wasn't a fluke either, just that he needed a legitimate chance. He's also 14-6-1 against Edmonton in his career with a .940 SV%....

        I don't wanna tempt the hockey Gods with this one .

        The Flames aren't a very deep team. Right now they basically have two lines. They're running with Huselius - Conroy - Iginla and Tanguay - Langkow - Nolan. Both lines are on fire. For some ridiculous reason they've paired Lombardi with two rookies, and their fourth line has been a sinkhole all years.

        I think the Oilers bottom 6 can play Calgary's bottom 6 to a draw at worst, and with some luck, we can win that battle. What that means is that the two top lines for the Oilers (Penner - Horcoff - Hemsky and Moreau - Cogliano - Pisani) absolutely need to beat Calgary's top two lines. The ST battle is important... but I think this game will be won in the trenches, and if we wanna win tonight, then our best players have to be our best players. Someone has to contain Iginla (Pitkanen? That'd be my choice anyway...), and Garon will have to stand on his head.

        I'd bet whoever scores first wins as well. The Oilers need to get a quick one on Kipper and go from there... we're taking baby steps, but I just don't see good things happening if we're down in the third period trying to make a comeback. Too many guys would be holding their sticks way too tight.

              Scorecoff strikes! Nice finish on a lucky bounce after smart palys by both 16 and 83, 83 to get the puck to the point there and 16 to just throw it at the net. 27 also made a nice play behind the net and 44 did a good job of keeping it in... just several good plays in a row and it resulted in a goal. Gagner and Phaneuf have both had 5 bell chances as well early... exciting game so far, hopefully the Oilers can keep it up. Hemsky looks like he's going to have one of "those" nights tonight. He's already made a nice pass, dangled two different Flames defenders, and drew the PP that put us up 1-0.

                Won $80 mil in vbucks on that goal, on three different props. Makes up for a disastrous NFL weekend. WTG Horcoff!

                  I think the key to this game will be to keep the energy up... when we're forcing the Flames they are coughing the puck up consistently.

                  I'd also love for the 37-5 experiment to end... every time they're on the ice, the Flames become twice as aggressive and bad things happen. 23 can clearly play more effectively than either, and this team is on the cusp on being on the cusp of the playoffs , so we may as well end the development and try to win some games here. The NHL isn't a developmental league in the first place....

                          When the penalties are five to ONE, and the Flames are getting away with blatant penalties, it really does make my teeth itch...

                              this team has shown in spurts that they can be pretty good, and it gives me hope, but they need to show up like this they have the last few more games more consistently.
