Re: Pitkanen for Cole
Sounds like it's not straight up..."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Now, for the coupe de grace . . . Katz, when introduced as the new owner at the press conference in Edmonton tomorrow, announces the free-agent signing of Marian Hossa.

Ha. Ha. Tongue in cheek, I hope!!Originally posted by PDO View PostThis is a pretty ****ty start of the day for Kevin Lowe.
I'm getting really excited about being a new/old season ticket holder again for this hockey team this upcoming season.
It's amazing what a difference an owner with money can make, isn't it?

You win the prize.Originally posted by Angelus View PostCole is UFA next year. I do not like this at all...
Not to mention that trading Pitkanen straight up just didn't make any bloody sense in the first place.
Cole will look great with 10 and 83 this year....
And then what happens?"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. Maybe we can get him locked up long-term? I don't know...Originally posted by PDO View PostYou win the prize.

The market for Pitkanen mustn't have been very good if this is the best Lowe could do."No one entertains the thought that maybe God does not believe in you." - Bo Burnham

Agreed.Originally posted by PDO View PostWhich means you don't trade him.....
The more I think about this, the more I hate it. There's no way Cole is going to give up UFA years to stay in Edmonton. I just don't see it.
We just gave up Pitkanen for one year. What a joke.
We have almost nothing to show for one of the NHL's best d-men signed to a super sweet contract.

Re: Pitkanen for Cole
I've always been a fan of Cole. He reminds me of Glenn Anderson in his style of play although not nearly as fearless. Pits could still become a great defenseman but I do have my doubts.
I like the trade for this year but the UFA does leave some worry. Though if the cap continues to rise as it has then we should be ok...Quote from Inquiring Mind:

And with the cap continuing to rise, how likely do you think it is that Cole would be willing to sign here instead of testing the market?Originally posted by stamphater View PostI've always been a fan of Cole. I think one of the Albatrosses the Oilers have around their necks is the Souray contract. It's having big implications on this team.
